lars_bergquist Posted September 21, 2012 Share #2 Posted September 21, 2012 Strange that the entire aluminum body shell has eroded away, leaving the brass parts – and the front of the leather ERC! lars_bergquist Posted September 22, 2012 Share #4 Posted September 22, 2012 I think that for WWII buffs at least, if not for Leica collectors, the value of the item would rise considerably if there was a clear battlefield provenience – found where? Battlefield archaeology is a growing and respectable academic speciality. The trouble is that in many parts of Europe, there are too damn many battlefields. mmradman Posted September 24, 2012 Share #10 Posted September 24, 2012 I found myself wondering if it is unusual that the camera has no military markings According to S/N it is 1939 vintage, it could have been private camera or military one without markings. I would imagine with a bit of serendipity it could be traced to original owner. Seller is not asking for a fortune, auction stands at about $60 for a piece of war scrap, chromed brass parts survived pretty well.

jaques Posted September 27, 2012 Share #20 Posted September 27, 2012 good question.... perhaps the camera was killed in action- and the owner rescued the lens? seems like it came from the scene of very fierce fighting: Defensive Battles in Courland (Latvia) - Dec 1944 - YouTube
