Silver chrome or black body with black lenses?

I’m ready to order an M10 next week, or M9 if I don’t like the price/performance of the M10. I plan to purchase 2 or 3 lenses and they will all be black.

Are there any advantages of a silver body over a black body? Is it really just personal preference? Is one finish more durable than the other? I’ve heard silver lenses are heavier than the black ones, is this also true with bodies? Do silver bodies look normal paired with black lenses?

i don't think there are any advantages....except that black is functionally more stealth, minimalist, and faaaar more attractive! :)

How will you know what the performance of the M10 is next week?

I have a silver body (M9P) with black lenses. Was thinking of buying some silver lenses (50 lux ASPH), but I think I like the black on silver combo better.

It gives the camera a look just like the 70 SLR's and I think therefore less expensive.

Silver lens on silver body looks awesome, but also expensive.

Thus far I have had more people recognizing my camera as an leica with my black M8 , than with the silver M9P.

But that can also be the red dot off course :)

I think it is true that chrome lenses are sometimes heavier than black lenses (when they are made with differrent metals or alloys). I don't think this applies to bodies also.

Yes, the chrome lenses are heavier but the bodies weigh the same.

When I first started buying Leicas a black body was rare. It took months to order and there were so many chrome M2/M3/M4 bodies available used. So my used M2R was chrome and I decided not to wait for a black one when I ordered my M4.

Personally, I like black bodies. They have more sex appeal - though they are more common in this era. The grey M9 leaves me cold, but the Chrome M9P is a stunningly beautiful classic.

Someone posted a photo of a chrome MM that sure looks tempting. It would be nice if when reaching into your bag you could grab the color M or the b&w MM by the color of the body. Something to consider...

I noticed color differences for about a month and now it looks normal. Lately I am purchasing black lenses because I can see the numbers/settings more easily, the chrome lenses can cause somewhat of a glare but this might just be me and not an issue for others. When I see a chrome lens that I own in black I think how nice it looks and the same for chrome lenses I own and see in black. The only solution that would solve this whole issue is to buy both.:D

Is silver chrome the same as grey metal on the M9 or MM? Are they painted or plated?

Any idea what color sells the most with the M9?

Chrome is chrome plated, black is paint or chrome, grey is paint.

In Europe silver outsells black, in the USA the other way around, I believe.

Any combination is fine with me.

General consensus is that the M10 will be introduced next week at Photokina. When that happens, price, sensor size, ISO range and general design will be available. That will be enough for me to judge the price/performance.

Not heavier no. Further no differences that you can't see yourself. Probably less observable wear, see for instance an old M4 vs. an old M6

The M10 will only be available in a new very matt black on magnesium finish. The chrome edition will take another year.

You must NEVER put a black lens on a chrome body, nor a chrome lens on chrome. Might be ok for the SLR crowd but we are Leica men! Meddling will get you nowhere.

Thanks guys! I'd prefer chrome whether it is in black or silver. I'll pass on grey or black paint if that is an option. This background is helpful and I will use it during conversations with my Leica dealer.

Only an inbred Philistine would mix and match black and chrome! Abomination!!

This means that ultimately, we must each purchase two complete sets of lenses and bodies - one set in chrome, one set in black. And absolutely NO mixing of black paint and black chrome, for the love of God!!

Order must be maintained at all costs! :D

Suggestion noted, but I always have been a nonconformist.
