I'm not planning to buy anything but the total cost seems to be: ebay price + 25% tax + 20% toll + PayPal fees  sometimes reasonably new items on ebay could end up almost double the cost buying new in Sweden..

I have looked into buying an older Leica from established store in the UK/Germany though.. but no one offers secure online payment, one of the basic requirements  oh well, my wallet is safe for now.

In 2006 these sold for $6,000. They made 1,000. They were not received by everyone as much more than proof that Leica was still breathing. But, they are reported to be a nice solid set. I would place the sale price between $10,000 - $14,000. I would not pay this amount today for this kit because, there are still too many like-new copies sitting in collectors cases. I can't find any sales that are in this range. This is not like a collector piece that has been around for 50-60 years and it is therefore rare to find a like new copy.

Just me, I would not chase this black copy.

Any of the Leica dealers will take an order from you over the phone.

Yes that's ok for a brick and mortar store you have personal contact with..

But not when they start an online business and the only option when clicking the buy-button is bank transfer, no cards involved (I've asked several of the LUF advertisers about this).

I'm helping shoppers authenticating online stores almost daily at another (non-camera) forum and one of many the requirements for a trusted website is secure online payment, and to follow the EU regulations etc.

I recently bought a lens from Red Dot in London using their online ordering system. I had forgotten that I had to make a bank transfer, something which surprised me when I ordered from them the first time. The bank transfer from my Swedish account took just two days and the shipment was incredibly fast - an email from Elaine at Red Dot that the lens had been shipped on Friday afternoon and then delivery in the morning the following Monday.

So I was very happy and all went quite fast the delay due to the bank transfer notwithstanding.

Still I can't help but wonder why such an established online dealer as Red Dot doesn't offer a secure online payment system in addition to bank transfer. Seems slightly backwards.

Perhaps they want to avoid the potential problem of chargebacks involving customers who are based overseas (do Red Dot take credit card payments over the phone for non-UK customers)?

If you are buying from one of the known UK dealers, they will generally be a 'brick and mortar' store as well as selling on line. There are plenty of threads on the forum about the best (and worst) dealers, just search the names you're looking to buy from.

You should have no concerns with making a bank transfer payment to one of the trusted dealers.

I would pay that sum ....:p ... but unfortunately, the seller doesn't like to sell to Italians, it seems ..:

"I will not post this camera to Africa, South America, Latin America, Italy, Russian Federation, Pakistan, and Indonesia"

(any black M3 for sale must be regarded with LOT of care...)

It is wrote Italy not Italians...:D
