Joi Posted March 23, 2007 Share #41 Posted March 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry to cross post this from another thread, but iView and Aperture have both started crashing since the OS update. I went back and did the plist edit. Someone from Apple told me that it was that patch. Has anyone else had any problems? Does anyone know whether using Eoin's hack in 10.4.9 causes crashes? Advertisement Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Hi Joi, Take a look here No M8 DNG support after OSX 10.4.9 update. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
flavio Posted March 23, 2007 Share #42 Posted March 23, 2007 Hi Joichi, I'm using Aperture 1.5.2 with 10.4.9 and have no problem at all. I do not have the Eoin's hack. Greetings.
Hans Roggen Posted March 23, 2007 Share #43 Posted March 23, 2007 Hi Joihi, Aperture doesn't crash (more often) on my G5 since using the hack. But the DNG previews in finder seem to be gone since 10.4.9. Hans
Eoin Posted March 23, 2007 Share #44 Posted March 23, 2007 See my advice here http://http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/19202-after-update-macosx-10-4-9-a.html
wlaidlaw Posted March 23, 2007 Share #45 Posted March 23, 2007 Hi Joichi,I'm using Aperture 1.5.2 with 10.4.9 and have no problem at all. I do not have the Eoin's hack. Greetings. There are real problems with 10.4.9. Some Stalinist creep at Apple has started to delete posts regarding problems from their own discussion forums. People are furious about that approach. A friend of mine has had to reinstall his OS and stop at 10.4.8. Apple is starting to behave like Microsoft, covering up problems and lying to their customers - not good news. Corporate ethics rule - OK! I had a three month problem with the Airport and networking on my new Intel iMac which Apple kept implying was me and it cost me hours of phone time on a premium rate number. It turned out that there were thousands of customers with the problem and the techies had been told to keep stringing people along until a firmware fix could be devised, which it finally has. I have had no problems on any of our 4 Macs on 10.4.9 (PM dual 2.3 G5, Intel Core Duo 2 iMac, G5 iMac and G4 iBook), other than the missing DNG icons. flavio Posted March 23, 2007 Share #46 Posted March 23, 2007 Hi Wilson, I really do not see myself as an Apple Stalinist-or the like (some messages of mine were deleted in the Apple Aperture forum when I simply asked for Leica support and I even asked the reason why, with no replay) but I really do not have any problem 10.4.9 related, so far. I have to say that I use jpeg format but Joichi was reporting about general crash problems and I suppose they are not relating to a particular tool but as an overall problem. Am I correct? I have to add that, for what I have understood, sometime troubles previously reported (not just for 10.4.9) came from local configuration problems, but of course, Apple and all other brands are not perfect and have done errors (iTunes for instance, for someone - not for all - gave problems). My actual experience with 10.4.9 (as well as the previous updates), anyway, is normal. For complete information I use Powerbook 15" 1.67 GHz latest edition with 1GB Ram. stunsworth Posted March 23, 2007 Share #47 Posted March 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The only problem I've had so far is with Firefox crapping out occasionally, but I assume that's a Firefox issue rather than OS.
wlaidlaw Posted March 23, 2007 Share #48 Posted March 23, 2007 Flavio, The people I was saying were Stalinist were the Apple employee moderators, who have started to remove posts, which they feel might show Apple in a bad light - this is a rather sinister approach. Contrast it with Leica, who on their own owned Forum i.e. this one, have allowed all and sundry to rant and rave about some of the perceived shortcomings of the M8. Nobody expects software to be perfect but a company should be open about problems, as that way others might suggest effective solutions. Look at what has happened on Unix. It would certainly appear that Leica is listening to us and all due credit to them. It seems to me that corporate ethics at Apple have gone down the pan - look at the stock options scandal. Steve, There is a Firefox update that came out yesterday for Mac that seems to improve the crashing situation. Previously it did not seem to like "Reply to Thread". flavio Posted March 23, 2007 Share #49 Posted March 23, 2007 Hi Wilson, I have seen your message quoting mine, so I understood you may think to me as something like "Apple Stalinist". I am not and thought to better explain my idea. Next time I hope to be in Sussex shooting with our M together. Or in Tuscany, if you prefer :-)
stunsworth Posted March 23, 2007 Share #50 Posted March 23, 2007 Wilson, thanks for the information regarding Firefox.
flavio Posted March 23, 2007 Share #51 Posted March 23, 2007 Clearly I am a lucky Mac user: no problem with Firefox too :-)
EH21 Posted April 7, 2007 Share #52 Posted April 7, 2007 I love my mac's but I think they've managed to really botch some of their coolest stuff. The newton was awesom but they pulled the plug on it. Aperture has a lot of good in it, but I think most of the developers must shoot with pocket digicams and don't know what a real photographer needs/uses. Recently they added support for a total of 8 cameras, but in the time they were working in think several dozen cameras were introduced. If I understand it correctly their method for adding raw support includes a trial and error process that involves making prints. Hmmm.... I think in about 3 years they will be so far behind in adding raw support that no one will use it and they'll kill the project. Too bad.
