yannis.asp Posted March 13, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) hello to everybody... I have a problem on my decision. I know the advantage and disadvantage of a digital and of an analogue camera but i would like to hear some advises from people who are kind in both formats. Will i get the same sharp and nice photos with M8 as i can get with an M7? Thank you!!!

hammam Posted March 13, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 13, 2007 With the right lenses, they will be über sharp, über nice, and different. You'll shoot more, a lot more, and you'll spend a lot more time at the computer. But you'll learn more. Go for it, you won't look back.

erl Posted March 13, 2007 Share #6 Posted March 13, 2007 Check the waiting lists to buy. That will give you a pretty good guide as to what a lot of people think.
like_no_other Posted March 13, 2007 Share #7 Posted March 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) hello to everybody...I have a problem on my decision. I know the advantage and disadvantage of a digital and of an analogue camera but i would like to hear some advises from people who are kind in both formats. Will i get the same sharp and nice photos with M8 as i can get with an M7? Thank you!!! It depends on what you mean by 'nicer'. If you scan selected pictures, correct colours, tonal range, apply unsharp mask you have a few very special digital files which you probably value very high. Each digital file of the M8 is one of thousands, nothing special. Not so nice if you ask me.
egibaud Posted March 13, 2007 Share #8 Posted March 13, 2007 they will be different
pesche Posted March 13, 2007 Share #9 Posted March 13, 2007 I own an M7 which I used heavily before (approx. 50 rolls of film per year) I got my M8. I thought that I will use both cameras in parallel - after 3 months, the distribution is a little bit uneven: half a film in the M7, 4500 frames with the M8... I really love the M8, I never regretted my choice. Peter
carstenw Posted March 13, 2007 Share #10 Posted March 13, 2007 Okay, I am doing better than that, Peter: M6: 2 1/2 rolls of Tri-X, M8: 1500 pictures
GMB Posted March 13, 2007 Share #11 Posted March 13, 2007 I have mine since 10 days. I think in 3 months my statistic will resemble Peters. I am afraid my M7 will not see much light (reminds me that there is still a film in it which was unfinished when I got the M8:)
grober Posted March 13, 2007 Share #12 Posted March 13, 2007 Go ahead, bite the bullet and buy your first M8. At the rate both film supplies AND reliable color labs are disappearing, there's really no choice, is there? -g
Bill W Posted March 13, 2007 Share #13 Posted March 13, 2007 I have been shooting digital slr for several years ahd had an M7 that was never being used even though I knew what it was capable of. The thought of processing slides to digital kept me from using the M7. I sold it and threw in the remaining rolls of film when I ordered my M8. Now I have a shelf of Nikon gear that is gathering dust. There is really something different about an image from the M system. It certainly is the glass but I think Leica has really come up with someting special in the M8 and even with the problems people love them. I have had no problems with mine. Buy Buy Buy and you will need new glass glass glass.
