elansprint72 Posted March 13, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 13, 2007 Wel it's just great, even without the wonderful dolphin in the sky. Really thought that I had sussed this location, Lac du Der Chantecoque en Champagne; then I remembered that there was a spire, not a tower with cupola! Bugger. One of these days Rolo, one of these days!

stuny Posted March 13, 2007 Share #5 Posted March 13, 2007 Rolo - Wonderful for your signature glow and tonal range, terrific bleakness with your use of empty space. Pete - Not a dolphin, but a weedy seadragon (related to sea horses and pipe fish).

JE Posted March 13, 2007 Share #7 Posted March 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Rolo - Wonderful for your signature glow and tonal range, terrific bleakness with your use of empty space. Pete - Not a dolphin, but a weedy seadragon (related to sea horses and pipe fish). Stuart nailed this one. The empty space really makes this shot, although bleakness isn´t the word I´d use...serene, placid, still even.

mitchell Posted March 14, 2007 Share #9 Posted March 14, 2007 Great work. Was the darkening of the foreground, and the top of the frame done post processing? Best, Mitchell
andybarton Posted March 14, 2007 Share #10 Posted March 14, 2007 Give the man a break, William. Regardless of what it is, Rolo's is by far the better picture.
Rolo Posted March 14, 2007 Author Share #11 Posted March 14, 2007 Great work. Was the darkening of the foreground, and the top of the frame done post processing? Best, Mitchell Mitchell, Thanks for the comment. I have this in B&W neg and colour. This frame started off as a colour image and although the coloouring is fabulous IMO, the sky has is not consistant. Rather than put the work into it to try and make it work I decided to do a conversion in PS. With the loss of colour, the 'dolphin' needed bringing back. The forground was a little bland and I played around with it to give it some life. Hope that helps. William, you didn't comment on the image, just the title. ... but thanks for pointing it out. Andy, ...... "Down Rover" Thanks to all for your comments. Rolo
elansprint72 Posted March 14, 2007 Share #12 Posted March 14, 2007 There is a world of difference between Water Works and Waterworks. This is the location I first thought of: Photographies aériennes du Lac du Der Chantecoq, page 1 Very similar story, large man-made lake, historic chapel in the way, almost identical result. There is also a world of difference between an artistic photograph and a "snap".
ECliffordSmith Posted March 14, 2007 Share #13 Posted March 14, 2007 Rolo, Very nice. The long shutter speed blurring the water accentuates the building even more. The sky is just, well, the icing on the cake!
