Carduelis Posted September 3, 2012 Share #4  Posted September 3, 2012 Hello Im curious what sites do you visit to find almost new lenses of latest generation like Summarit 2.5? I know there is Ebay, but are there other sources to look for? Because I want compare prices between new and used. I tempted for a new but I need to sell of old to afford  In the UK there are a number of places to buy used lenses in mint conditions. Just do a Google on 'Used Leica M Lenses' and you will find sites such as Red Dot in London, London Camera Exchange and Stephens in Manchester (where I bought my used lenses). If you are after a 50 mm Summarit f2.5, the cheapest used one I have ever seen was around £800. I have bought mint 35 and 75 Summarit M lenses which cost around £900 - £950. I traded in Canon kit as part of the process.
akiralx Posted September 3, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted September 3, 2012 Yes, about $1100 - $1200 or so is a fair used price. Quite a few on eBay and the forum buy and sell. Â If you can get one with the hood included that is a bonus as that is a separate item. Â A very good lens - i have all four summarits and like them a lot. tomasis7 Posted September 8, 2012 Author Share #6  Posted September 8, 2012 IWC Doppel, Im from Sweden  MarkP, I will keep look at those stuffs. Not so many though.  Carduells, so it is possible to trade my other lens? I may trade 50mm Cron III with hood. What price difference itd be for a trade?  akiralx, how easy to focus the lens manually? smooth?
wattsy Posted September 8, 2012 Share #7  Posted September 8, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) how easy to focus the lens manually? smooth?  Yes, very smooth but possibly a teeny bit 'loose' for some tastes. Certainly, if you are used to a modern FLE lens, the 50 Summarit can feel a little but sloppy in comparison. That said, I've never had a problem focussing this lens (or the 35 Summarit) – very sharp, fine flare control, and a nice small physical size (as any good M lens should be). tobey bilek Posted September 8, 2012 Share #9  Posted September 8, 2012 Leica Camera AG - Home  Click on the dealer locator very top row of tabs on the left. Most all dealers have web sites with inventory showing. They all ship internationally.  Tamarkin Camera had a grand opening in Chicago last night and the Leica rep was there with some samples, a 50 Summarit on the M9 among them. Focusing was smooth , but perhaps somewhat easier to turn than some of the heavier lenses, I would say on a par with other past lenses of that weight class. The more weight, the tighter the focus seems to be across the line. Been that way forever.  For average usage for most amateurs this is a good value lens if you do not need more speed than 2.5. Buy the optional lens shade.

lars_bergquist Posted September 8, 2012 Share #11 Â Posted September 8, 2012 I would never buy a used lens by mail order, except from a dealer I felt very great confidence in, a confidence strengthened by good experiences. In my case, that dealer would be Leicashop in Vienna, but there may be others if equal integrity. Â In all other cases I would insist on a personal, extensive inspection of the goods before purchase, and a valid guarantee, at least from the dealer. philipus Posted September 8, 2012 Share #12  Posted September 8, 2012 I visited Wibergs in Stockholm this spring and while I didn't buy from them I felt confident they are a reliable store. In particular I compared the 50 Summarit to the 50 Summicron there. It seems they do keep a rather large stock of new lenses. There are other Swedish shops too, which I have not bought from but which I add here in the public interest: Schönherrs Foto and L-Foto. It does seem, however, that the Swedish shops do not receive as much second hand equipment as other EU dealers.  It is quite easy to buy from shops within the EU because no taxes are added. From outside the EU you may have to pay import duties and VAT, which can amount to quite a bit (I experienced this from Tamarkin personally; though they did offer great service, I should add).  Since I live in Holland I have had a look at Schouten-Select and my impression (fwiw; I have not bought from them) is that they tend to charge a bit more than other dealers (not in the range of Arsenal Photo but not far from it sometimes. Another Dutch dealer, Collectcamera, has more reasonable prices.  I have personally bought - and received excellent service - from Leicashop in Vienna (Jo Geier is head of 2nd hand sales and very competent), Foto Prisma in Bologna (Andrea Ricci Signorini is very helpful and offers very quick shipment within Europe), and Red Dot Cameras (which, incredibly, managed to deliver a lens to me in Holland on a Monday morning which was sent from London on the preceding Friday).  Other EU-based shops to have a look at are Meister Camera (in Berlin and Hamburg), Photohaus.de, Newoldcamera, Ffordes and Photo Ottica Cavour, to name a few.  I should add that I have also bought from a member here through the Buy and Sell section and felt quite comfortable doing so.  Good luck Philip
akiralx Posted September 8, 2012 Share #13 Â Posted September 8, 2012 Yes, very smooth but possibly a teeny bit 'loose' for some tastes. Â Yes, I agree with that. Â The Summarits are the range I would (and did) buy used online without inspection as they are new enough to not have any issues. No problems with my used examples. bpalme Posted September 9, 2012 Share #15 Â Posted September 9, 2012 Fredmiranda.com is a big one and usually the cheapest prices for stuff. There's some there right now for $900 with dings. $1100 like new.

What price difference itd be for a trade? Â In the UK, you would certainly be able to trade your other lens in. However, I think it might be more practical if you could do it 'in the flesh' with a Leica dealership in your native country of Sweden in case there were issues over condition/value. I have never owned a Cron, so cannot really comment on price difference.

microview Posted September 22, 2012 Share #18 Â Posted September 22, 2012 I have never been disappointed with Aperture (London) and as their current list shows, Leica Cameras, Leica Lenses - Aperture uk - RATHBONE PLACE, LONDON, W1T 1JE | Tel. 020 7436 1015, they have some as-new Summarits. The grading is scrupulous (I first went there in 2006 and return frequently; they have now separated from their alternative Nikon/Canon shop near British Museum). tomasis7 Posted October 2, 2012 Author Share #19  Posted October 2, 2012 microview, thanks   the MISSION IS ACCOMPLISHED  the lens has "sloopy focusing" indeed, at first I was confused due was used to slow Summilux pre Asph 35mm focusing but wow one can focus with Summarit very Quickly!! which is the way to go when designing a new one.  That is a big step forward for quicker handling, ergonomics. Kudos, Leica! I like external ring that covers thread so one doesnt worry worn edge of barrel, buy a new ring and sell this as nice looking lens again.   Im very happy with this as main lens, the character is hard to pin point out. I bet it will very nice with high grain film. I'd say the lens character is very refined similar to APO. I say as I used 35lux pre asph on rd1 and 50Cron on M3. When I took samples, my thought is that "the view is very clear".  However I did go out and took some boring shots once I got the lens.  Thanks Jens (seller) . I bought the lens from here.  Below samples, Rd1, times 1/15 iso 800 pushed 1-2 stops. Widest aperture of course. Suits as night time lens Welcome, dear visitor!
