Back to Leica M, regret my change to NEX

a good street lens would be the 40 summicron- you can pick one of these up for under $800- and get a Leica CL free film body.

Grind the lens cam so it brings up the 35mm framelines and you are set. Very small well made lens that performs very close to the 35 summicron but costs perhaps a third as much.

an advantage of a wider lens is a more depth of field to cover focus error.

another wider option would be the voigtlander 28mm f2 lens which I found worked brilliantly on the m8- huge DOF on the street in the daytime: stop down a little and just about everything is in focus. Very sharp lens.

@Jaques: I found a mint 40mm Summicron today for 390 Euro, so I made my choice:D:D

All in all, I have a nice package: M8 with sapphire glass, black dot, new leather, new shutter, 4 UV filters, half case, and a mint Summicron 40mm for less then 1900 Euro! Financially this is a nice step in to Leica-M I believe...

That really is a fantastic price for a solid Leica kit- the 40mm lens is tiny, and will make a very nice package with the black m8u, black dot: which is just a great feeling camera- these shots are from exactly that camera fitted with the 28mm CV Ultron f2 on my first day trying the camera out in Bangkok- I had to sell it but miss it still- and I found some of my favourite shots were out of focus- sometimes you just have to let go of focus i think:

one of the advantages with the m8 with the cropped sensor is that the edges are sharp even with the lower end lenses...
