The coating of the silver version ist really unique. The coating seems much more modern than the leather-like coating of the black version. Besides: when you want to take photos in dark conditions to completely use the low-light-capacities of the X2 it is better to have rich contrasts in the design. Thanks Ralf  The X2 is able to produce quite good results in dark situations as a result of the sensor´s abilties. In such extreme situations when the surrounding light is insufficient it can be helpful to have contrast in the camera design that allows to quickly find the important controls.  The black version only has a useful contrast on the controls at the top-plate (white on black).
