Advertisement Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Hi Leica Blog, Take a look here Leica Forum: New Structure . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wildlightphoto Posted August 20, 2012 Share #2 Posted August 20, 2012 I suppose R is in the Collectors & Historica section?
bill Posted August 20, 2012 Share #3 Posted August 20, 2012 Looks sensible. I'll be interested to see it "in the flesh". It is hard to make things look simple... Regards, Bill
stephan_w Posted August 20, 2012 Share #4 Posted August 20, 2012 I suppose R is in the Collectors & Historica section? good idea! I like the new structure: Soft evolution, like from an M8 to M8.
NZDavid Posted August 20, 2012 Share #5 Posted August 20, 2012 Looks excellent. I think it will work really well, and thanks to Andreas and team for their hard work. It will be worth it. It does look as if R users have been overlooked, though -- I wonder how many there are? And if Photokina turns up any new products they may need new categories. One minor point: I don't think there is such a word as "splitted". A thought: Surely all previous posts would not have to be migrated to fit in to the new format? Couldn't a search function locate them under the old format? Then the new format would apply to new and most recent posts only.
earleygallery Posted August 20, 2012 Share #6 Posted August 20, 2012 Looks likely that there will be a new M10 section as well? Why not just have an amalgamated catch-all Digital M forum instead? Many issues are the same after all. I don't see the need for a panaleica forum AND digital, again it could be included together IMHO. Also the film M section should be just film, to include R users as well as the minilux, CL, etc. Very interested to see how the street section goes, given the strong views for and against it when it's been suggested before. Street is very diverse, hopefully the content will be too. Darkroom forum is welcome given the apparently growing interest in traditional processing and printing. Good to see the forum developing and expanding like this.
Keith (M) Posted August 22, 2012 Share #7 Posted August 22, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sounds to be all quite logical but it will be interesting to see how it all works in practice, particularly the splitting of the film forum. When is it intended to introduce the changes?
andybarton Posted August 22, 2012 Share #8 Posted August 22, 2012 It's no different from having the digital cameras being split from the digital processing and that works well. Likely to happen in the next couple of weeks.
mikebidwell Posted August 22, 2012 Share #9 Posted August 22, 2012 It certainly looks interesting and includes the section on Leica M Lenses which so many have been on about. Look forward to seeing the changes in due course. Best wishes Mike B
Guest Ming Rider Posted August 22, 2012 Share #10 Posted August 22, 2012 Bravo, bravo !! A dedicated Street Photography sub-forum. It has been a long time coming and something I am very pleased to see happen. I'm sure it will be a raging success It has always been something of an enigma to me as to why there was no such section. After all, Leica Cameras (the brand) built it's reputation largely with Street Photography and the countless famous photographers that go with it. For THE Leica forum not to have a Street section was, to me, confusing. Congratulations. It IS more than just a name. P.S. In order for the change to make more sense to those who may be struggling to understand the need for this, maybe the 'People' forum should be changed to 'Portraits' (an instantly recognisable photographic term) and / or the description altered to reflect this? Michael Hiles Posted August 22, 2012 Share #11 Posted August 22, 2012 I think "People" and "Street Photography" have some overlap, but overlaps are unavoidable. Otherwise, looks good. I will be quite interested in how much "Darkroom" is used and what appears.
stevelap Posted August 22, 2012 Share #12 Posted August 22, 2012 Looks like a sound and welcome restructure to me. Well done. Some overlap between 'People' and 'Street Photography', could be confusing? R posts now in 'Other Leica Products' I suppose?
Peter H Posted August 22, 2012 Share #13 Posted August 22, 2012 Thanks for putting in the effort for the members' benefit. Even though I regret the change, I hope it works well.
SiMPLiFY Posted August 22, 2012 Share #14 Posted August 22, 2012 I like the idea of having a noob section. Learning to use a rangefinder is not without its idiosyncrasies and it would be good to have a place to ask those "stupid" noob questions without cluttering up the other sections where the Pro users post. Our own little Leica kindergarten. I like it!
SiMPLiFY Posted August 22, 2012 Share #15 Posted August 22, 2012 One more thing ... I am wondering if under the noob section there could be a mentor/student relationship where the student would pay a small monthly fee for one on one mentoring. Some may get up to speed in a month and for others it may take a year so it would be a month to month to help us noob's get up to speed with the camera, post pictures to find out how to improve, as well as resolve any technical issues that may arise. The forum could pay the mentors and keep a percentage for maintenance, bandwidth and other expenses. Maybe we could have an online gallery opening for the students to show the other members what they learned and how they've improved. It could be a fun little side job for some of the seasoned photographers here. The passion is evident in this environment. It's just something I want and am unable to locate online. There are tons of courses on digital cameras and software at such places as lynda.com but I find very little on Leica Rangefinders, film, processing film, creating a print etc ... Books are great but some of us need a teacher too for the feedback. It's something I would pay for and appreciate.
andybarton Posted August 22, 2012 Share #16 Posted August 22, 2012 That sounds an interesting idea but fraught with all sorts of complications re payment, tax, etc.
SiMPLiFY Posted August 22, 2012 Share #17 Posted August 22, 2012 wishful thinking ...
SiMPLiFY Posted August 22, 2012 Share #18 Posted August 22, 2012 Perhaps something like an online "Genius Bar"? similar to Apple? example: eight hours of training, spread across a series of four two-hour sessions
NZDavid Posted August 22, 2012 Share #19 Posted August 22, 2012 Looking at this again I think it is pretty good, but wonder if it could be simplified? Why not combine Leica M9/M9-P/Leica M Monochrom plus Leica M8/M8.2 into Leica M Digital? Leica M7/MP and Film M could be Leica Film Cameras to include R and Barnacks (some overlap with the latter in Historica). Leica X1-X2 may need a name change when new models appear. Ditto for Leica D-Lux/Digilux/V-Lux. Probably best to keep separate or could be combined as Leica Digital Compacts.
wonson1 Posted August 23, 2012 Share #20 Posted August 23, 2012 Hi New Structure - what about the C Lux series? Great for wifes handbag! Regards Ken
