Looks excellent. I think it will work really well, and thanks to Andreas and team for their hard work. It will be worth it. It does look as if R users have been overlooked, though -- I wonder how many there are? And if Photokina turns up any new products they may need new categories. One minor point: I don't think there is such a word as "splitted". :)

A thought: Surely all previous posts would not have to be migrated to fit in to the new format? Couldn't a search function locate them under the old format? Then the new format would apply to new and most recent posts only.

Looks likely that there will be a new M10 section as well? Why not just have an amalgamated catch-all Digital M forum instead? Many issues are the same after all.

I don't see the need for a panaleica forum AND digital, again it could be included together IMHO.

Also the film M section should be just film, to include R users as well as the minilux, CL, etc.

Very interested to see how the street section goes, given the strong views for and against it when it's been suggested before. Street is very diverse, hopefully the content will be too.

Darkroom forum is welcome given the apparently growing interest in traditional processing and printing.

Good to see the forum developing and expanding like this.

Bravo, bravo !! A dedicated Street Photography sub-forum.

It has been a long time coming and something I am very pleased to see happen. I'm sure it will be a raging success :)

It has always been something of an enigma to me as to why there was no such section.

After all, Leica Cameras (the brand) built it's reputation largely with Street Photography and the countless famous photographers that go with it.

For THE Leica forum not to have a Street section was, to me, confusing.

Congratulations. It IS more than just a name.

P.S. In order for the change to make more sense to those who may be struggling to understand the need for this, maybe the 'People' forum should be changed to 'Portraits' (an instantly recognisable photographic term) and / or the description altered to reflect this?

I like the idea of having a noob section. Learning to use a rangefinder is not without its idiosyncrasies and it would be good to have a place to ask those "stupid" noob questions without cluttering up the other sections where the Pro users post. Our own little Leica kindergarten. I like it! :)

One more thing ... I am wondering if under the noob section there could be a mentor/student relationship where the student would pay a small monthly fee for one on one mentoring. Some may get up to speed in a month and for others it may take a year so it would be a month to month to help us noob's get up to speed with the camera, post pictures to find out how to improve, as well as resolve any technical issues that may arise.

The forum could pay the mentors and keep a percentage for maintenance, bandwidth and other expenses. Maybe we could have an online gallery opening for the students to show the other members what they learned and how they've improved. It could be a fun little side job for some of the seasoned photographers here. The passion is evident in this environment.

It's just something I want and am unable to locate online. There are tons of courses on digital cameras and software at such places as lynda.com but I find very little on Leica Rangefinders, film, processing film, creating a print etc ...

Books are great but some of us need a teacher too for the feedback. It's something I would pay for and appreciate.

Looking at this again I think it is pretty good, but wonder if it could be simplified?

Why not combine Leica M9/M9-P/Leica M Monochrom plus Leica M8/M8.2 into Leica M Digital?

Leica M7/MP and Film M could be Leica Film Cameras to include R and Barnacks (some overlap with the latter in Historica).

Leica X1-X2 may need a name change when new models appear. Ditto for Leica D-Lux/Digilux/V-Lux. Probably best to keep separate or could be combined as Leica Digital Compacts.
