have an m8 (black) since about 2,5 years and absolutely completely love the thing (format, size, the rangefinder thing, compact... etc - well, i guess you guys/ladies know what i'm on about...)...

have also collected a couple of lenses (summicron 50mm '64, summilux 50mm '62, elmarit 28mm 2011, summarit 75mm 2012 and a voightlander 15mm) to confuse the hell out myself... first 15 months was just with the summicron...

and now - I'm in an opportunity to buy another fairly priced m8 (silver) from a local shop... really tempted...

go for it or rather not and go m9... not sure at this point why m9 though... guess i like my m8

i know this has some of the answer in it - but just interested to get some opinions (also how the lens set would do with the alternative m9/additional m8)

thanks all for views

I was in a similar situation a while back and went with an M8.2. No regrets. I get the same FoV with either camera, plus I also get excellent handheld IR capability. I also will admit that I like the LCD on the top of the M8 giving me quick access to battery level and remaining shots. I alos shoot very few wide angle shots so the M8 is perfect for me. YMMV...

A M9 will enable you to make 33% larger photos by linear measurement. The M8 will allow 11X at 240 ppi which is the best ppi setting for light jet laser printers. All else being equal, the M9 will allow a 16X. People do make larger prints by interpolation of pixels and seem to be pleased.

the 28 and 75 should be perfect, but with a wider view because of the larger sensor.

The 50`s will lack some contrast just as they do on the M8. Fine details in the resulting wider corners may lack some fine detail. The older lenses in general are not as good with digital as film.

Use the search function to see about the 15. I believe people use it with success. You will need a proper 15 mm finder rather than the more correct 21 .

The M9 shutter will be more quiet compared to the 1/8000 sec shutter of the early M8 and the frame line set closer to reality, but still 6 feet rather than the close limit of focus.

Hi, i've had my M8 from new and was not tempted by the M9 when it was first released..

When the M10 spec is revealed i may upgrade to that, if not, then i will go for an M9 as a primary body and my M8 as a secondary body. I expect the s/h price of the M9 once the M10 is announced/released to be such that it would be an obvious choice over a 2nd M8

Plenty of threads about the change. I did it and wouldnt go back, I really like using all of the lens and found 21mm was not quite as wide as I wanted on the 8.

Now I use my 24mm more than my 21mm and love my 28, 35 and 50. For me that was the main thing. I also really like the better ISO performance and the fact you can choose settings in between a full stop. Add to that the improved colour density and a little slicker and it makes sense.

If your M8 has been a good companion why buy another ? Colour choice ? An offer 'too good to miss' ?

An M9-P looks very attractive too !
