I am indeed. I want to start a project and most of the photos I see on pbase are urban. I don't understand how people just walk up to you on a street, take your photo and then put it on the web! I just don't think I can do it here without getting shot. I live in a rural area. A national forest. Trees, trees and more trees... :) Lots of people with guns ...

The only thing I can think of at the moment is switching to my 90mm and doing a nature study similar to Edward Weston of stuff I find in the woods. :) A year in nature ... ??? Mushroom, Leaves, Birds Nests that kind of thing ... no pepper! :)

???? and what has this all to do with an M2, I guess your problem would relate to any kind of camera taking peoples pictures?

Well, it's the camera I have. If I look at photos from a newer camera I'll just want a newer camera. You know?

I was just looking on pbase and they all seem to be urban for the most part. I just can't see me doing those kind of photos here. I didn't mean I wouldn't like to. I may actually try it and see what happens!

Kathleen, there are many M2 users here. If you delve into Collectors and Historica you will find a thread devoted to them (I love my M2). Trust me, there are far better photographers than me using it. The M2 is, in my mind, the purest M - no meter, no distractions, just the "holy trinity" of 35, 50 and 90mm framelines. I, like many others, prefer it to the M3. It sits proudly alongside my much newer MP4 and holds its head high in that company. Like Andy, mine saw the light of day the same year I was born - which makes Andy's a year older than mine ( :D )

BUT... It is not about the camera. It's about you. You can produce exceptional results with pretty well any camera as long as you understand and master its idiosyncrasies and strengths. In my mind, the M2 is quick to use, easy to focus and relatively unobtrusive. If someone does "catch" you using it they are as likely to smile at the "funny old camera" as frown. Remember that a smile and a "what are you to do?" shrug can disarm all but the most arse-minded people. Photographing in public is legal, honest, decent and truthful, to coin a phrase - you have a right to be doing it and nobody has copyright over their own image. If people are in public they are by definition unable to claim "privacy". Don't be stupid, of course - pointing your camera at the bellybutton of a Baltimore trucker is likely to get you short shrift - but never, ever be afraid to press that shutter release. :)

Regards,

Bill

'course you can. :)

It won't happen overnight - you have to burn some film along the way - but practice is the thing. I happen to be clearing out the gloryhole that is my office at the moment and I am busily matching and dispatching negs and prints from years gone by. I may not be the best photographer in the world, but I can say without fear of contradiction that I am better than I was five years ago, and infinitely better than I was 10+ years ago

Good to read all the encouragement being given - an example of the forum at it's best.

Infinitely? Does that mean you have decided you can no longer improve, Bill!?

(I suspect just a touch of hyperbole there). ;)

You have an amazing body of work! I thoroughly enjoyed going to your online gallery and seeing your prints in real life would be divine. I love your compositions and the subjects have certainly stood the test of time.

I am really looking forward to learning and obtaining results from clicking the shutter to making the print. I am doing my best with books and assistance from very helpful people here.

Thank you for linking your website.

Thank you for you kind words Kathleen! I went back and checked and others I remember with my M2 other than 'The Secret' and 'The Royal Mile' are 'Salade de Druits' and 'The Motorbike.' I looked at your website. Keep up the good work! If you have any question let me know...Robbie (PS: check the site in about two weeks. I will be adding a whole new gallery of about 60 unseen photos)
