Old new M8.2

Hello,

For many months I have been patiently shopping around for a well priced second hand M8.2.

Finally I managed to find a brand new M8.2, yes a never used camera which appear to have been in stock for a long period of time @ a good camera store in the Netherlands. It is one of the last ever produced and I got two years warranty for what ever it means with an old camera.

So far all is working well including the battery in top condition! I intent to use it only for B&W without the IR filter as demonstrated by practical experience in LFI 8/2010. For live view and colour photography I use the NEX 7 with Leica lens.

Lets see if the results will be as expected, but I don't think I'll be disappointed especially in combination with a Summarit 35mm and Summicron 50mm.

Errr... your results for color will be better on the M8 than on the NEX...(provided you use your IR filter) unless you shoot over 1250 ISO.

I have my doubts about not using an IR filter for B&W. You may lift a bit of shadow, but that is because there is an unsharp IR underexposed image overlaid. I find the results less crisp, and shadows can be lifted just as easily in postprocessing.YMMV.

I use my M8 exclusively for B&W but without the IR filter and have always been more than happy with the results. However, not having tried it with the IR filter you may well be right. Be interested to learn what others think on the subject.

I agree, the IR filtering is highly recommended as to remove any IR contamination, also for B&W images with the M8, M8u and M8.2! Works with trees, leafs and grass etc.

Much sharper B&W but also color images with the UV/IR filter.

I only remove the filter when shooting into the sun as to avoid/reduce flare and reflections.

Congrats on finding a nice M8.2. I'll play contrarian here and mention I don't use the UV/IR filters on mine. My M8.2 is dedicated for bw shooting only and I use a yellow filter. Yes, the files look strange when you open them, but when you do the bw conversion the magic happens (at least for me). Good luck.

Don't think it was ever three free filters was it? I thought only two and Leica may well have stopped it by now. No matter, the world is awash with secondhand UV/IR filters from owners with overly ambitious views of what they are worth.
