Leica Excitement?

Unusually quiet these past few weeks, this could prove to be a concern that Leica may have to delay announcements and release dates. Other manufacturers in the not so distant past were (supposedly) on the cusp of announcing anticipated cameras only to have nothing. Then again this could be the quiet before the storm.

Supposedly … What really happened was that rumour mongers were proven wrong but wouldn’t admit that; instead they invented another rumour that the original rumour was true, only the planned product introduction had to be cancelled due to some unforeseen circumstances. (Like some people claimed that ‘May 10’ really was code for ‘M10’, only the M10 wasn’t ready yada yada …)

As is customary in every year divisible by 2, there will be a Leica press conference on the eve of photokina, there will be new products announced, and if everything works well, there will be no serious leaks before that date.

And just as every two years we are expectantly awaiting a big product announcement (or every three years if the M8-M9-M(10?)) pattern holds, we are now in this sort of tense, shoot-at-shadows period awaiting the delivery of the new product. Had the M Monochrom shown up early, this forum would be all abuzz over the reports from early adopters. As it is, we are awaiting delivery of the Monochrom and 50 Summicron, and news of the M10. Which leads to threads for the sake of doing something, anything, that might hasten the delivery of news and products!

I’ve registered for the Hasselblad press conference but remain sceptical – last photokina I had left with the impression that Hasselblad had stolen (and wasted) one hour of my time.

For those of us on the other side of the World, will you be blogging or posting your perceptions, Michael?
