swamiji Posted August 11, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted August 11, 2012 Actually, I have one. The Military type in all black. It provides a couple of cool features that are beyond just looks and protection. One feature is that it allows for additional lenses, Macro, fish-eye, telephoto, etc. to be just simply attached via magnet. It comes with a tripod stand, which can be useful. Also it allows me to attach a Gordy's wrist strap. Most iPhone cases, just provide protection, this one can be useful. Â I do get a lot of comments on it, a few find it homely, but when they see the features, they change their minds. Some just think it's a Steam Punk design, and find it appealing. cocker Posted August 11, 2012 Share #8 Â Posted August 11, 2012 I think you are paying Leica a compliment they don't deserve there. A Leica product is a "consumer good" just the same as any other - just a different market and price tag.

bocaburger Posted August 11, 2012 Share #12 Â Posted August 11, 2012 Drat, it's only for the 4/4s. I've got a 3Gs and no plans to upgrade until it stops working. Kind of like the same plans I've got for the M9
algrove Posted August 12, 2012 Share #13 Â Posted August 12, 2012 I can't afford an iPhone (& the contract) since I've spent all my money on Leica gear. Â @bocaburger-Good philosophy.
swamiji Posted August 12, 2012 Share #14 Â Posted August 12, 2012 I live in China, and one of the really insane things here, are the prices of certain foreign goods. Specifically Apple products, and Leica gear. Last April I went back to the States and bought a iPhone 4s (no-contract version), and a couple of Leica Lenses. I paid full retail price for all of that. When I got back to China, I went around compared prices locally. Â For the iPhone, the american price is about $100.00 less than the Chinese price, except the Chinese prices requires a contract, and the American price does not. And they are made here, just down the road out side of town is Foxx manufacturing. Â The Leica lenses where I live are about double the American price, maybe just a little less. Except for one dealer where they are almost triple the American price. An example of this is this shop is that they have for sale, a Visoflex III with the old heavy 400mm Telyt, for $7k. Granted it's in really good shape, but $7k... I bought mine a few years ago for just over $700. Oh, It's all grey market, not a single Leica Dealer, but almost every camera shop has some Leica, mostly for prestige I guess at these prices. Â Needless to say, I still maintain a good relationship with my American Leica dealer, they ship me things from time to time.

swamiji Posted August 13, 2012 Share #18 Â Posted August 13, 2012 I wonder why one doesn't say quite the same thing about DMR batteries... Â True, but it's easier to get a DMR battery fixed than MacPortable's. The 5 lbs lead acid batteries are hard to find... Apple Service Center does not even acknowledge the old beast exists. Â If it weren't for the historical significance of this computer, I would not care at all.
