robsteve Posted March 11, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Over the past couple days I have been shooting a bit of basketball with the M8. It does very well under the stadium lighting. Most were shot with a Noctilux at f1.8 and 640iso and some were shot with a 35mm Summicron at f2 or 24mm ASPH at f2.8 and 1250iso. This one is shot with the Noctilux. Here is a flash gallery with more pictures form the game created with LightRoom. On the M8 I had the Noctilux, 32mm Summicron ASPH, and 24mm ASPH. There are a few DMR shots mixed in. I used the 180mm APO Summicron and 19mm on the DMR. Gallery

Mat161 Posted March 11, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 11, 2007 Rob, Very nice action shots! I'm happy to see the M8/Noctilux combination perform so well. I was looking for "another" reason to pick up the lens and YOU have just provided it to me. Thanks.........I think$$$. Keep up the great work. tashley Posted March 11, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 11, 2007 C'mn, you hacked the EXIF. Those were clearly taken on a D2X. :-} Tim

Gueorgui Posted March 12, 2007 Share #10 Posted March 12, 2007 To get back on the original topic, I shot a rugby game with the M8 mounting a 135mm elmarit last weekend. Got some okay shots! More...
Guest guy_mancuso Posted March 12, 2007 Share #11 Posted March 12, 2007 You know i find this very interesting this thread because back in the day there were no stinging Motor drives or AF camera's and us old dogs shot sports with intuition and the decisive moment. Frankly i think all of that is lost now that people can't think they can't get a sports short or high action without a bloody motor drive. The M8 may not be the perfect tool for this but it CAN be done and done well. coming from a old dog that still likes to work a camera than it work me
elansprint72 Posted March 12, 2007 Share #12 Posted March 12, 2007 I used to shoot cars with IIIC with home-made wire finder! Not ideal but it paid the rent. You M8 folks are spoilt!

wparsonsgisnet Posted March 12, 2007 Share #14 Posted March 12, 2007 I did an indoor socceer shoot on the 4th with success, as well. Here is a shot: Note: v.1.091 with a profile that Edmund built specially for that version! This is 35mm 'lux asph with 486 filter, 1/250, iso 640, no noise reduction or other processing except WB from a gray shirt on one of the goalies. I always carry a WhiBal card, but forgot to bring the assistant who reminds me to do the things I forget to do. BTW, I was following the player in red in the background, so the two guys in the collision in the foreground are sadly oof. Of course, the subjects in my photo are moving faster than the ones in Guy's photo. Welcome, dear visitor! dogberry Posted March 12, 2007 Share #15 Posted March 12, 2007 Really lovely shot Robert! You obviously didn't heed the advice of the crowd who insist that rangefinders are no good for sports. What fabulous colors as well.
andit Posted March 13, 2007 Share #16 Posted March 13, 2007 Hi Rob, Hopefully this is not out of place here, however I just wanted to take my hat off to your images that you regularly post on the forum. Excellent, and inspiring. I love the way that you show everyone here that it does not matter if you're using a R or M or whatever other camera's you use to achieve excellent results. Just shows that it is the person behind the camera that makes the images. Welldone, I certainly hope that I will be able to create images that are half as good as your's one day. Thank you for your posting's. Andreas PS: I'm certain that you could take a disposable (one of those throw away cameras) and still work magic with it... robsteve Posted March 13, 2007 Author Share #17 Posted March 13, 2007 Here is my gallery from the Championship Game. The winner of this game (Acadia in white) is the Atlantic region Champion. They go on to the National Championship, which is held at the same venue next weekend. The second place team also makes it to the National championships, as the host region gets to have two teams in the National championship. I made a few changes to the Lightroom generated flash gallery. It now displays the file name. Any file that starts with 121 was shot with the DMR, the others, with the M8. The DMR was shot at 800iso, the M8 at 640iso. I used the 180mm APO Summicron and 19mm on the DMR. On the M8 I had the Noctilux, 35mm Summicron ASPH and 24mm ASPH.
