bocaburger Posted July 25, 2012 Share #21 Ā Posted July 25, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Being American I instantly recognize the nose of an early-50s Chevy pickup, but what the hell is a Zodiac?! I thought I knew English cars fairly well but I never heard of it . Looks vaguely like a '62 Plymouth /Dodge.

Ecar Posted July 26, 2012 Share #22 Ā Posted July 26, 2012 If I remember correctly, the Zodiac is essentially a Ford Zephyr on steroids.
NZDavid Posted July 26, 2012 Share #23 Ā Posted July 26, 2012 Zephyrs and Zodiacs were large British Fords but with a distinctly American design influence -- particularly the later ones -- built between 1950-72. Also popular in Australia and New Zealand. More like an Anglia on steroids! Ā Ford Zephyr - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

stunsworth Posted July 26, 2012 Share #26 Ā Posted July 26, 2012 Lars, I think that photo illustrates rather well the problems of photographing cars at a public show with a wide lens.
honcho Posted July 26, 2012 Share #27 Ā Posted July 26, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Posts #18 & #24 illustrate why a moderate wide angle lens such as a 35mm equivalent is not a good idea unless wide angle distortion and environment is really wanted, in which case go much wider to exaggerate the effects. Ā Detail shots are often much more interesting than simple record shots as is shown quite well by comparison in post #20.

lars_bergquist Posted July 27, 2012 Share #33 Ā Posted July 27, 2012 Lars, what lens(es) did you use for these two shots? There appears to be flare in both (top left corner of the first, top left and top right corners on the second).Ā /s Ā The lens used was the 35mm Summilux ASPH current version. Yes it does show a bit of flare, but much less than its predecessor, which I also owned. I do rather think that a little bit of local, controlled flare does add a bit of atmosphere ā I rather like it! Ā The old man from the Age B.C. IWC Doppel Posted July 27, 2012 Author Share #34 Ā Posted July 27, 2012 I had a dig around and I have used my 28 before with a car or two, but not at a car show or other. lars_bergquist Posted July 27, 2012 Share #35 Ā Posted July 27, 2012 There are occasions when a 21mm lens comes in handy (this is the Super-Elmar) but for most shots, a 35mm seems just right. Ā As I recall, this was taken with a 21 Summilux in a park in Melbourne on Australia Day, earlier this year. I was unfortunately so fixated on getting it in focus, I failed to stop down slightly.
