About the new battery charger

Query: Are you sure you don't have a 'battery problem' instead of a 'charger problem' ?

Taking a long time to charge and/or discharging quickly when in use are just as easily symptoms of a worn out battery or a battery that has a fault or a manufacturing defect of some sort.

If you are using original batteries they are about dead by now. A Li-Ion battery has a lifespan of about four years. Six if you are lucky. Just buy a couple of new batteries.

My experience charging a battery is 2-3 hours, but I don't usually run my batteries deep into depleted range. I get two bars indicated and pop in my 2nd battery at first convenient moment.

I can't reccomend strongly enough that a person buy at least one spare battery for their cameras no matter what kind, type, or brand, they own.

In my film days I carried inordinate number of rolls because I didn't want the fun to run out before I ran out of film. In digital, I carry spare batteries and extra memory cards for the same reason. :-D

Ditto - every single digital camera I have owned or still own, lives with at least 3 batteries. I must say that carrying extra batteries takes up much less space than carrying a 'brick' of film.:D

and much cheaper too!

Say, U.S. ($4.00 a roll x 10) = 40.00 + ($6.00 processing x 10) = $100.00

I'd do that 2-3 times a year.

Add in an average 1 roll a week for rest of most of the rest of the time.

On an annual basis that spare battery lasting for 4yrs starts to look like a dang bargain.

The Leica site says about 2 hours for the 80% yellow light to come on following full discharge. To fully charge, closer to 3 hours is normal.

I let the battery run down completely once in a while; otherwise I charge after every use, regardless of level.

How about the new model charger, is it better and quick??

I don't think it's new, been around since the original M8 clunker was replaced by the M8.2.

But that old clunker still lives on as the default charger in my study, despite a trio of newer ones scattered in various camera bags...

I didn't know that, but after 3 and half years my original M8 battery still going very strong. The charging time is the same and I can still get about 400 shots for each full charge.
