Advertisement Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Hi stump4545, Take a look here back/front focus 35mm fle. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
viboons Posted July 5, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted July 5, 2012 I do not know about other's 35mm fle but mine was sent to calibrate because of back focus 2 weeks ago. I am waiting for it return. For me,it is a wonderful lens worth all the hassle to keep.
jaapv Posted July 5, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted July 5, 2012 Are you referring to focus shift here?. The Summilux 35 FLE was designed to cope with that problem. Not that it is 100% eliminated, but it is well within the tolerances required for practical photography.
stump4545 Posted July 5, 2012 Author Share #4 Â Posted July 5, 2012 does the 50mm 1.4 lux asph lenes suffer from focus shift at all? Â Â when a lens is calibrated can it fall out of calibration and you need to send it back to recalbrated, or once is good for life? Â Â thank you. jaapv Posted July 5, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted July 5, 2012 A lens cannot be calibrated out of focus shift. The Summilux 35 asph has noticeable focus shift. The Summilux 35 asph FLE far less to the point of unimportance. The Summilux 50 asph has some focus shift as well, but not enough to matter. As lens calibration is normally by shims there is very little -rather no- chance of a lens getting miscalibrated by use.
stump4545 Posted July 5, 2012 Author Share #6 Â Posted July 5, 2012 can a lens get out of focus from shipping a lens cross country? Â does the .95 suffer from a back/ front issues?
Paul J Posted July 5, 2012 Share #7 Â Posted July 5, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm yet to see any focus shift or front back focussing issues from my 35 FLE or 50 .95. I've used both heavily and haven't had any problems with it, not to say it doesn't exist entirely.
JWW Posted July 5, 2012 Share #8 Â Posted July 5, 2012 It's not clear from the original question whether it's regarding front/back focus calibration (to the rangefinder) or if it's regarding focus shift. These would be two totally different issues. Â Any lens, especially noticeable on small DOF lenses, such as Noctilux etc, can have front or back focus problems if the lens has been mis-calibrated to the rangefinder body. This is corrected by first determining if it's the lens or the M body that is off calibration and then getting either adjusted. Â Focus shift, on the other hand, is a design issue, and either exists or doesn't depending on the lens design and shows up as a focus shift as the lens is stopped down. stump4545 Posted July 6, 2012 Author Share #9 Â Posted July 6, 2012 i am talking about back/front focus issues. Â so to sum it all up: Â all summilux lenses and nocts can be subject to front and back focus problems correct, 21mm lux, 35 lux etc... Â once calibrated to correct front/back focus i dont have to worry about it falling out of focus even from shipping cross country or by use. Â are these statements correct?
