eyedeebee Posted June 30, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted June 30, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know they don't always get the best press, but I've got to say that my recent dealings with the Classic Camera were first class. Quick and friendly responses to e-mails and friendly service in the shop, where I got a good deal on a M8. Â One of the other London Leica dealers didn't even respond to my e-mail. Advertisement Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Hi eyedeebee, Take a look here Thumbs up for Classic Camera. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wda Posted June 30, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted June 30, 2012 It is indeed good to read positive feedback. Enjoy your M8 and do report if you test their after-sales support.
bocaburger Posted June 30, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted June 30, 2012 Is Classic one of those shops in Pied Bull Yard across the street from the British Museum?
andybarton Posted June 30, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted June 30, 2012 Yes. Â Do a search on the forum to see what other people's experiences are.
gabriel Posted June 30, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted June 30, 2012 Classic do not have a Leica dealership nor have done for several years. However they do stock the hard to find Artist and Artisan cases and straps as well as some new and secondhand Leica. In the past when they were Leica dealers I had nothing but satisfactory dealings with them.
IWC Doppel Posted June 30, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted June 30, 2012 I thought they were a Leica dealer ? Â I have purchased numerous things from them in the past lens, bag, filters etc. somehow I never seem to feel that I am 'the customer'. The last time I went in to try a viewfinder they didn't seem very helpful tbh. Most shops that have customers that had spent several thousand pounds seem to be somehow more supportive ? Â Just my experience
andybarton Posted June 30, 2012 Share #7 Â Posted June 30, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) They had their dealership stripped several years ago. Any "new" stock they have will be a grey import and will not have the full support of Leica UK. No Passport, for example. Â Do a search on the forum... There are lots of stories about this place, some of which are here.
RFNewcomer Posted July 1, 2012 Share #8 Â Posted July 1, 2012 My own experience with them has been OK, but I've only bought small things. Last time I was in, they were very keen to sell me a Fuji X-1 Pro, but I didn't take to it.
gyoung Posted July 1, 2012 Share #9  Posted July 1, 2012 I've bought 3 lenses (used) from them over a long period, no problems, in fact they were very good when the 21mm viewfinder broke after a couple of weeks I usually go in and have a drool over the showcases when I'm in London  Gerry
IWC Doppel Posted July 1, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted July 1, 2012 Interesting that they are not an official dealer....... This would explain why they are so bitter towards Leica in general conversation. Â Anyone know why they lost their dealership ?
LotharZhou Posted July 2, 2012 Share #11 Â Posted July 2, 2012 I have bought 3 Zeiss and 1 CV lenses from them in the last few years, so far my experience had been fine. No complains apart from one CV 35mm skopa quality issue, and they swapped it with a new one.
Pangur Ban Posted July 4, 2012 Share #12 Â Posted July 4, 2012 I've used Classic Camera quite a bit over the years - I originally bought some Leica binoculars from them about six years ago and a couple of years ago I bought my M8 from them. Unfortunately the M8 went wrong within a week of purchase but Classic Camera couldn't have handled it better - they took charge of sending the camera back to Leica and getting it fully repaired within a short space of time, with great communication all round, and no cost to me. They also sold my M7 for me as part of the M8 purchase and quickly got a good price for me. Â I've seen disparaging comments on this forum in the past but have always found them a good place to use, unlike some of the other London dealers where I don't bother going back to now.
