mtechnic6 Posted June 27, 2012 Share #1 Posted June 27, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, I inherit 2 Leica Visoflex lens (after much research) one is a Leica Elmar 65mm f/3.5 ELC Canada Lens with Visoflex OTZFO/16464 and the other is a Leica LEITZ Summicron 90mm f2.0 CANADA lens head only. I have a Voigtlander M mount adapter to Sony NEX and the 65mm mount perfectly to the adapter but I cannot get a good clear focus on my Sony thru either my EVF or focus by live view. I figure I must be doing something wrong. So I am asking all of you can you please provide guidance to a lost Hawaiian???

giordano Posted June 27, 2012 Share #2 Posted June 27, 2012 Hi everyone, I inherit 2 Leica Visoflex lens (after much research) one is a Leica Elmar 65mm f/3.5 ELC Canada Lens with Visoflex OTZFO/16464 and the other is a Leica LEITZ Summicron 90mm f2.0 CANADA lens head only. I figure I must be doing something wrong. So I am asking all of you can you please provide guidance to a lost Hawaiian??? The Visoflex lenses are designed to mount on a Visoflex reflex housing which in turn is attached to the Leica camera body. So you need somehow to extend the thickness of the adapter by the thickness of the Visoflex itself. The two lens heads you have both screw on to the 16464, and the 16464 bayonets into the front of a Visoflex II or III, whose thickness is approximately 40mm. The simplest and cheapest way to get going will be to acquire a Visoflex II: they're not expensive these days and since you'll only need it as an extension tube it doesn't matter if the mirror is tarnished, the focusing screen dirty or the prism chipped. Otherwise, you could get a custom adapter made (simplest again to buy a Visoflex to acquire the front and rear bayonets that will be needed). Any good machinist could do this. Or you could get a Leicaflex/Leica R adapter for the NEX and use this with one of the adapters made for using Visoflex lenses on Leicaflex or R bodies (14127, 14127* or 14167). luigi bertolotti Posted June 27, 2012 Share #3 Posted June 27, 2012 Welcome to the forum !!! Mounting a Visoflex just to use it as a "tube" is simple (and rather cheap) but the final combo would result a bit monstrous... ; also, keep in mind that if you have the Summicron 90 lenshead ONLY, you need also the adapter that acts as the OTZFO for the 65... its code is ZOOEP/16463 (chrome - 16462 when black) and is not impossible to find. But... they are lenses of a certain age... don't expect super performances when used on your Nex... I am (as many in this forum) a deep lover of Leitz lenses, but my sincere opinion is that the standard zooms listed by Sony probably can give you better results that this pair of venerable Leitz glasses... Joe S Posted June 29, 2012 Share #4 Posted June 29, 2012 I made a "visoflex eliminator" that was both cheap, simple and light. I started with a cheap ($15) NEX to Leica adapter. I epoxied this to a 39mm extension tube and then screwed a Leica thread to M adapter to it. Mount this in your NEX with a Leica adapter installed. You need access to calipers for measuring, but its not too critical if you just make it a little short. Focusing beyond infinity works OK on the Sony. I have used this with my 280mm telyt and my M bellows with several lenses with great success.

My main interest towards Nex is to use it as a "digital back" for long focus Telyts (and I have them all... 200 280 400 560 800... ) and am very interested in seeing examples... I'd appreciate also a picture of your Do-it-Yourself adapter.
swamiji Posted June 29, 2012 Share #6 Posted June 29, 2012 Well you could use a visoflex to R adapter (Leica) , then a R to M adapter (novoflex or Leica). Followed by a M to NEX adapter. That should allow for fairly good focusing.
gyoung Posted June 29, 2012 Share #7 Posted June 29, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use a visoflex to Nikon adaptor for film work, and then add a Nikon to m4/3 for the g1. There must be Nikon to nex adapters available cheaply via ebay? There seem to be adapters for anything to anything available these days Gerry

Tens of miles? BTW, congratulations on the performance of the Italian soccer team yesterday! They played phenomenally and won deservedly. If they can keep that up, Spain should have a really hard time on Sunday.

I'd be curios to see pictures taken with NEX with Telyts at distances of, let'say, "not short"... 55 yards to infinity (when thinking of yards, we meter people always add 10%... ). I've not bought a Nex, but maybe not YET... I've always thought of it as a device for tele usage... And yes, our team has been really great, sorry for the German Forum members... ... I'm not so passionate on soccer, but me and my wife yesterday evening agreed to order the daughters "far from TV, girls !! Mom and Pop have THE MATCH to look at !!"
