Guest Ron (Netherlands) Posted June 20, 2012 Share #1 Posted June 20, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Astrid Kirchherr I believe is know using a Rolleicord for her many early works. Just today I came accross a story about the movie A Hard Day's Night, when I think a saw her using a black Leica M3 (with 35mm summicron?). Well perhaps you have more info on this.... Advertisement Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Hi Guest Ron (Netherlands), Take a look here Astrid Kirchherr and a black M3?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted June 21, 2012 Share #2 Posted June 21, 2012 The lens looks like a SUMMILUX 50mm to me although the front appears to be strange. A great shot, thx for sharing. best GEORG

A great shot, thx for sharing. best GEORG Yes, the diameter of the barrel, apparently, is Summilux-sized... but the front lens looks someway "recessed" Summicron 35-like... ; btw... are we 100% sure is a M3? the windows in front look (vaguely) a bit too "flat"... and also M2 did exist in black... regrettably the picture is unclear... but is really a historical piece... Guest Ron (Netherlands) Posted June 22, 2012 Share #5 Posted June 22, 2012 Some footage from film (not from the movie itself I think): from this agle it looks like a M3 with a Summaron 2.8: btw don't know why I only get hyperlinks and no images in my thread anymore....I used the image button though
Guest Ron (Netherlands) Posted June 23, 2012 Share #6 Posted June 23, 2012 Just found this self portrait of Astrid with the Leica...might be a M2 after all, with Summaron...
luigi bertolotti Posted June 23, 2012 Share #7 Posted June 23, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good findings... it's a 35 100%, and a Summaron let's say 90%; and a Leica used that way with a 35 ought to be a M2, of course.
rob139 Posted June 23, 2012 Share #8 Posted June 23, 2012 Can it not be a summicron 35mm? Rob
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted June 23, 2012 Share #9 Posted June 23, 2012 Indeed, looks like a silverchrome 35mm-SUMMICRON. Best GEORG
luigi bertolotti Posted June 24, 2012 Share #10 Posted June 24, 2012 Summicron and Summaron (2,8) are very similar.... I gave my (arbitrary...) 90% of chance to the Summaron indeed thinking to the Summicron... but the front lens seemed to me rather deeply recessed to qualify it as a Summaron... I can be wrong, of course.
philipus Posted June 24, 2012 Share #11 Posted June 24, 2012 If it is an M3 wouldn't she likely have opted for goggled versions of the Summicron or Summaron? This thread reminded me of this list of famous people with cameras. Quite a few Leicas there. anthony luke's not-just-another-photoblog Blog: Famous People With a Camera
luigi bertolotti Posted June 26, 2012 Share #12 Posted June 26, 2012 If it is an M3 wouldn't she likely have opted for goggled versions of the Summicron or Summaron?... By sure (see my post #7) : that's why I tend to think it's a M2.
