reven Posted March 8, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted March 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just a question. Do you use it ? I really don't like the strong colour drift and so when I use it I use my 21/2,8 without filter. What are you doing ?
Advertisement Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Hi reven, Take a look here Are u using your 21 and 24 mm with IR Filter ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
joern Posted March 8, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted March 8, 2007 I have the 21 asph. As long as i can ( no synthetic black in the scene ) without filter. This is what i do with all of my lenses at the moment. And no coding activated.
hdrmd Posted March 8, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted March 8, 2007 I have the asph 21 also and I try not to use the filter unless there is fabric in the subject. DR
woodyspedden Posted March 8, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 8, 2007 I have the asph 21 also and I try not to use the filter unless there is fabric in the subject. DR Â I think that until FW ver 1.1 arrives the use of IR cut filters on the very wides produce effects far worse than the magenta shit. I would use no filter and then one of Jamie Roberts or Edmunds' profiles to minimize the magenta. Â so let's hope that ver 1.1 arrives in April as (now) promised. tashley Posted March 8, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted March 8, 2007 I use a CV15 and elmarit 24mm 2.8. I have filters for both. Cyans rarely appear on the 24mm with the filter, so it stays on. But they are always, and strongly, evident on the CV15. I tend to shoot it without the filter but a simple colour dodge layer in photoshop with a file a took of a blank wall and diffuser corrects it really effectively, it's just a mild hassle. russell Posted March 9, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted March 9, 2007 I use one with my 21mm SA f4. Otherwise *everything* would go magenta. I hadnt really used the lens before and almost sold it. Now it has a whole new life on the M8. It might be the best Leica 21mm when used digital. Why? Because it's so small, uses 39mm filter, and focuses down to something like 14 inches. And the much complained about vignetting isnt so bad because of the crop. Do you really need the extra stop of speed? Size and close focus trumph. robertwright Posted March 9, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted March 9, 2007 I have filters on all the time because I go from jobs to street shooting to fun pictures and back and I can't be bothered putting it on and taking it off. It is just easier for me to leave it on. Usually I really don't notice it, although I do have a lot of sky in some of my personal work and I will definitely have to get it coded because the cyan is really pronounced. I can take care of it in photoshop however, if needs be, so it has not affected any jobs so far.
woodyspedden Posted March 9, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted March 9, 2007 LOL. Â If you are going to quote me please do so correctly. The condition I was describing was the magenta "SHIFT" not "s....t" Â Hope I didn't make a typo but I don't subscribe to using that kind of language, here or elsewhere. marknorton Posted March 9, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted March 9, 2007 I'm certainly hoping than once the filters are available an V1.10, it will not be a case of constantly putting the filter on, taking it off, especially with those lenses with a clip-on lens hood. Instead, I'm hoping it will be a case of fit and forget.
Eoin Posted March 9, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted March 9, 2007 Of my 4 focal lengths 21, 35, 50 & 75, the 21Asph seems to show the least IR contamination. I have a filter ordered for it from Leica but I doubt I'll be using it much.
