wilfredo Posted March 8, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) My M8 is set to "standard" sharpening and I can't change it when it is on RAW (DNG). When I scroll down and push the set button, it remains the same, no options are given. If I have the camera on JPEG then I can change to other options. I'm wondering why this was designed this way. Any thoughts???? Thanks, Wilfredo+
Advertisement Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Hi wilfredo, Take a look here M8 Sharpening. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tashley Posted March 8, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 8, 2007 The DNG file is a negative, it has no sharpening applied at all. The in-camera settings for sharpening and so on all apply only to JPEG, since the in-camera JPEG engine is doing to files what your RAW developed will do to DNGs out of the camera. That's the usual way in pretty much all cameras that shoot RAW as well as JPEG. If you shoot DNG+JPEG, the settings are available and are applied only to the JPEG. Photoskeptic Posted March 8, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 8, 2007 Wilfredo, this is true with all digital cameras. With RAW, a true digital negative in that all the information in a shot is available, there is no need to set parameters - you do all that in post-processing. Guest guy_mancuso Posted March 8, 2007 Share #4 Posted March 8, 2007 yes DNG is raw so no settibgs are applied except it just tags the color managrmnt like adobe rgb but it is just a tag for raw convertors
