I know this is the age old question, but those that have seen the new X-2, what do you think of the two color styles?

My M8 is silver, my M3 is silver, and I have a black D-Lux 5, so I am leaning to the all black X-2. Thanks for the replies, Cheers!

Having seen them both, I prefer the Black version! I never particularly liked the silver finish on the Leica M's after the M6. The older silver (pre M6) had a satiny richness which the new finish lacks. I actually like the silver-grey of my X1 which is reminiscent of the Titanium M6 . The X2 silver looks too blingy, almost white and to my eyes, a plasticky, rather than metallic colour.I also don't like the artificial look of the body covering, which is a departure from the "vulcanite" faux-leather look of the traditional Leicas. It has a textured rubbery feel which again is a departure from tradition towards a kind of Euro-Techno feel.

But that's just me! Everyone has their own taste.!

When I went to the shop to buy my X1, which I previously have only seen in pictures, I was decided for the Silver one. But seeing the black for real in the shop made me doubt: it doesn't have that classical look that's great in pictures, but it did feel better, like an old tool that I was instantly familiar and comfortable with.

Asked for his opinion, the shop's owner was definitely in favor of the black because it call less attention than the silver, and I do value that stealthiness.

One bit of black adhesive tape on the red dot of my new black X1 later, I was ready to shoot about anyboby without being perceived as an intruder, and I really haven't had any regret since then.

So I would say it depends on the shoots you'll like to do, on how natural vs how posed you like your human subjects.

I would get the finish that is more durable. Thought I read in some X1 review that the silver was a little softer than the black. I had both silver and black M's and the silver seemed to scratch more easily. Not sure if it applies to the X1 or X2.

Anyway, I think durability is the key issue here and not aesthetics.

Agree that the stealth factor is pretty much a non-event. But I had a black and silver together to look at and chose the black. i think it is better looking--esp with the black EVF. The silver is a bit too much bling.

Prefer the silver. Retro feels.

Black doesn't make you more stealthy, it's all psychological.
I think you're mostly right, but it does make a difference: by making me feel like I belong here, I can shoot perfect strangers with more calm and confidence, and I think it does play a part in having the shooting accepted. Of course, it's all personal feelings, your mileage may vary!

Choose black, or silver. Definately.

LOL! I think I'll go silver as well, match my M3. This may be a stretch, but it's hot down here in FL and I feel like a black top plate will get much hotter in the sun if I have it on a shoulder strap carrying it around. I know it's silly, but I actually think about this stuff.

My opinion is that always to choose black, regardless of the camera, for one simple reason. Though the silver looks beautiful, it also looks more expensive. On my recent field trip to China for TheArtfulToad.com, people were asking me (in Chinese which I speak to some extent) if my black X1 was expensive. I, of course, told them in Chinese it was a cheap camera. I think I can get away with that with a black camera that looks quite non-descript, but I DON'T want a silver camera OR a red dot on it. I think, these days, security is very important. If I move up to an M, it must be of P varietry.
