MachineGun Posted June 1, 2012 Share #21 Â Posted June 1, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) That's correct. I weighted both of them during the brief period of time I had both last month. Â Savvas Can you please give me the Leica number of the silver lens. Thanks MachineGun
Advertisement Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Hi MachineGun, Take a look here 50mm Summilux in silver. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
otto.f Posted June 1, 2012 Share #22 Â Posted June 1, 2012 No experience with this particular combination but I own a black 50 summilux and owned an Elmar Macro 90 in silver. I find the 50 Summilux a relatively heavy lens which you really feel when you use it for a longer period, in my case three or four years now. Silver copies are mostly even heavier which was the case with my 90, so at the time I realized this and wanted to change it for a black one the price was already up with a 1000 or so. If I were you I would wait

Ib M Posted June 1, 2012 Author Share #24 Â Posted June 1, 2012 Thanks for your opinion - after reflection, I think I'm waiting for a black version of the 50mm summilux because of appearance, and not least the weight
Deliberate1 Posted June 2, 2012 Share #25 Â Posted June 2, 2012 I just spent nearly three weeks shooting in India with my black M9 and chrome 50mm Summilux and chrome Zeiss 35mm ZM. I am happy to report that none of the 1.2 billion inhabitants of the Magic Kingdom chided me for my two tone rig. And I like to think that I was less of a target because it must have been obvious that I could not afford a matching set. The chrome is a tank. The added grams are insignificant. Oh, yes, and Leica apparently threw a few mismatched componants together for the Special Presentation rig for Vaclav Havel - http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/Leica/Leica-M6/M6-Special/M6-Vaclav-Havel1998/index.htm. Chrome. Black. It is all good. As Red Foxx once noted, black or white doesn't matter. Because when the lights go out, its all a matter of who washed. JPizzzle Posted June 2, 2012 Share #26 Â Posted June 2, 2012 IMO, If the black is the one you've been waiting for, then don't settle for chrome. You already have a preference, and may regret it down the line if a different dealer calls you in a couple of weeks to let you know a black is in stock. It's a 4k purchase so make sure you get the color you really want. Â Also, If you think you might have some regret getting the silver and know that you won't have any getting the black, then the answer is difficult yet straightforward. Â P.S. I have the chrome 50 lux and think it looks and performs beautifully!

marknorton Posted June 2, 2012 Share #28 Â Posted June 2, 2012 The silver version, like the camera, will be much more durable than the black version. Black anodised aluminium is not in the same league as chrome plated brass. Any difference in focussing action is indeed down to sample aviation in this complex mount. JohnEe Posted June 2, 2012 Share #30 Â Posted June 2, 2012 I recently bought a new, minty fresh black summilux 50asph at a local shop in Oslo. They had two in stock at the time. I have also seen other impossible-to find items such as the noctilux on the shelves recently. So I suppose it is not too hard to find such items, at least within a few weeks or so if one keeps checking about the web. My problem now is to muster sufficient confidence to be seen in public with the silver UV filter from my old pre-asp "titanisiert" (up for sale btw) attached to it Cheers John
