StephenPatterson Posted May 24, 2012 Share #1 Posted May 24, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Saturn V Engines, 1st stage. Space & Rocket Center, Huntsville, Alabama. Leica M9-P + 21 Super Elmar M I took this shot straight up as I was lying on the floor. The rocket is displayed on it's side in an enormous building, and most people shoot the nozzle openings from behind, but I was intrigued by the complexity of the motors themselves and the illusion that these are mounted on the floor and pointing straight up. As always comments, critique and suggestions welcome and appreciated.

Omaroo Posted May 24, 2012 Share #4 Posted May 24, 2012 What a fantastic presentation angle Stephen. Apart from the unique aspect it takes, I think it's a great photograph. Really nice graduations and tonal balance. Well taken.
StephenPatterson Posted May 24, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted May 24, 2012 Cheers everyone. My wife saw this image and thought it was a group of milling machines in a barn!!!
Omaroo Posted May 24, 2012 Share #6 Posted May 24, 2012 One question Stephen in relation to the quality of lighting. I'm trying to understand how you accomplished this. Was the exhibit simply that well lit?
StephenPatterson Posted May 24, 2012 Author Share #7 Posted May 24, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Chris, the new building at the Space & Rocket Center built to house the Saturn V rocket has a glass wall running the length of the rocket, and another at the rear. The weather was very overcast on the day I visited, giving a very soft side light. Here is another picture of the 3rd stage, where you can see more of the structure of the building, and another of the 1st stage. These are unedited, just jpeg conversions out of LR4. I grabbed the wrong file
pauledell Posted May 24, 2012 Share #8 Posted May 24, 2012 Stephen, An excellent series. The first version is beautiful in b&w with the sharpness and smooth tones. This shot reminds me of pictures in the book "Places Of Power" by John Sexton. Paul
StephenPatterson Posted May 24, 2012 Author Share #9 Posted May 24, 2012 Thanks Paul. I don't know the John Sexton book you mentioned, but I will look for it. Cheers,
