Not a camera issue:

I've searched the literature and found nothing - a solution would be greatly appreciated.

When pointed downward gravity pulls on the lens mount, throwing focus off (as with heavier zoom lenses. My current work-around is awkward - a spring clamp.

Left side of bellows has 2 nobs - the larger focus one and a smaller one that after close examination appears to do nothing or is there for other accessories - anyone know what its for?

Thnx!

There are two focussing wheels, one extends the bellows, the other moves the slide relative to the tripod mount. The small one, as mentioned above is for the Compendium. I wish one would appear on the market from time to time...:(

Stiffness of the track mechanism seems to vary .....

I bought a second set of bellows because of this very problem...... and the 2nd is stiff enough to resists creep with all the lenses I use.

These must be an adjustment .... there will probably be a leaf spring somewhere in the ratchet that may either be tightenable or replacing.

Doesn't look too difficult to dismantle and investigate if you're feeling brave......

Nope. I took one apart - there is no adjustment available for tensioning the focus nob. It relies only on the friction of the tracks. I cleaned and regreased, no change.

Work around: get focus really close, spring clamp the lens plane in place, fine tune with lockable lockable tripod mount nob & track.

It works - but am disappointed no lock was designed in to begin with. They apparently didn't think anyone would need to take shots pointed steeply up or down
