Fantastic photo, also when considering that this stuff will be used to make decent quality beer (I hope).

The color subtlety is impressive. The singular topic likewise.

I mean , here in Canada, Barley does not look like this( almost ripe) in the month of May, in fact thats when they just start planting it. I don't think its that much different in Germany so, lets say they planted this in April 2012, it is still NOT possible for it to be that mature when you took the photo( May 11th or so 2012), so it had to be taken in 2011..thats what I mean.

Cheers, JRM

Barley is planted usually end of May / June..the variety is the same, just that the it is considered a very "risky" crop, you have to be good at reading the weather and making the correct decision. If you get it right, the barley should be golden yellow by August and ready for harvest by September. Its very important to harvest when it is dry, if you harvest when it is wet, you risk losing almost 50% of the value you will get for your sale.

Sometimes in a bad season, it does rain in September and so the crop is ruined, that is why it is considered "risky".

Cheers, JRM
