Whatever they introduce it is likely to disappoint most and be overpriced to all. As for all the consternation regarding live view and electronic bells and whistles I am reminded of wen Dylan went electric t o hoots and hollers from his fans. Wonder what would've happen if he stayed right where his fans wanted him to. I saw a documentary about him once and he said audiences can kill you with too m inch love too. Anyway, Leica should evolve. Step out try something new. If you don't like it stick with the m9. It will still be produced if the m10 is that different. To me the question is whether the ,10 has such improved capabilities as to make the mm somewhat beside the point. Just a thought

This is an interesting point. I can already hear the sighs that a Monochrom Live View EVF Focus Confirmation with Video and improved ISO was not announced.

For what it's worth I don't think the sensor will be a standard or even near standard CMOS based unit. They chose to avoid that path developing the CCD based sensor, in some ways I think this decision and the image quality benefits were not as fully appreciated as they should be. I am generally not a fan of equivalent resolution CMOS based images (I recall Erwin talking in detail about the more 'filmic' sensor response curve for the CCD).

Leica committed to this path for a reason, I assume.

I think the 'new' sensor will be more innovative than a stock CMOS on the 10. The CMOS is the base for other models I suspect, the gap filler for one.

Hey, thanks for the lesson.

Would love to see the results of your years of experience, initiative and skill.

As a "neuer benutzer" with 16 posts and an admitted non-Leica-owner, you might want to take a day or two to go through forum posts and observe that sarcastic, flame-baiting callouts don't cull favor here. When I wrote "you" I did not mean yourself in particular, so I apologize if it seemed like I was singling you out to be schooled. That said, I'll stand by my statement. Bells and whistles are great for making a big noise, less so for making good photographs.

...and I have heard they have signed NDAs with a possible fine of up to EUR 50.000 if they leak information. Those who tell you that they "know" stuff, probably know nothing at all.

How true! Remember the old saying, "Those who know don't tell, and those who tell don't know!"

Leicarumors correctly predicted the May 10th announcements a week or two beforehand. Sorry for being pedantic

24/2,8 would be nice

You should still be able to pick up a new 24 Elmarit ASPH if you check the various dealers. It is one of the very best lenses Leica have made and highly recommended if you like the 24mm focal length.

Rumour sites usually zero in on the actual product announcements, starting with wild rumours to be refined over time when leaked info replaces mere speculation or made-up stuff. Leicarumors had first participated in the May 10 = M10 crazyness, then predicted a display-less monochrome M (apparently based on speculation as there had never been a plan to build a display-less camera) and an 18 MP X2 (no idea where that 18 MP spec originated as the most logical choice by far was 16 MP). As of May 5 their predictions were largely correct.

The thing is that while leaked information may be spot on, mere rumours most often are not, and leaks are contingent on a larger number of people outside the company being let in on the scoop. I am not aware of any serious leaks regarding the announcements planned for photokina. Rumours are still mostly based on publicly available info and common sense (the good ones) or silliness and wishful thinking (the bad ones).

Leica Rumours has posted an image of the Leica invitation to Das Wesentliche evening before the opening of Photokina in Cologne on 17 September.

The invitation reads:

Our event focuses on the exclusive premiere of a whole range of new precision photographic tools ...

Deja vu ...

Leica Rumours predicts M10, S3, couple of panaleicas (yawn), redesigned Summicron 28/2 and a new Summilux 28/1.4.

Two new 28s seems unlikely.

I find it strange Leica is using the same idea as in May (a B&W invitation) with the same words (what's essential), but still tempts us all with the words "a whole range of new precision photographic tools". Does the dog head instead of a person's head mean they have us by the leash and are leading us down their path? Strange invitation to me, but then who would have thought we'd be seeing a B&W only camera a year ago.

"New" is guaranteeing we will be spending more money if whatever is new suits us.
