BJP reports that it looks like the M10 is almost certain for Photokina and could possibly be sold alongside the M9. Dr Kaufmann has hinted that the Truesense Sensor will have HD Video capabilities.

"When asked if such a new camera could include high-definition video recording features, Kaufmann said that "theoretically, yes," adding that there are some issues with introducing video in a camera - "the data rate, the heat, and the battery lifecycle, but I think we solved that. No comment until we show it on existing and new models."

What's interesting is the mention of "existing" models. Could he possibly mean a video upgrade for M9 (not that I am interested).

Yes I thought that was a very interesting comment too. Perhaps an M9.2 along side the M10?

I speculate that the M9 will remain mostly as is except for a sensor and internals upgrade and the M10 will be more electronic, more featured, Liveview, EVF etc.

Or "theoretically, yes" may mean that it's live view.

Sounds like a typical Kaufmannism to me. We have heard a few before, including an R adapter for the S2...

Just one little thing - it will NOT have a TrueSense sensor....

A very confident comment, Jaap. Care to share?

According to Dr Kaufmann:

But Leica's head of supervisory board confirmed that the brand would continue to work with Truesense Imaging, the equity firm that took over Kodak's sensor operations, to use their sensors in future models of the M series.

4 months and counting. :D

Cheers

John

Here is a quote:

" I’m convinced the new sensor will be made in Europe. For a number of reasons, not the least of which is a matter of scale. And the factory will be within a few hundred Km of Solms... "

Yes, by Jaap. It would be interesting to know why he is convinced ...

I noticed this too. If we have a high resolution full-frame CMOS sensor + decent live view implementation + optional EVF, there's no reason why this shouldn't work. The technology is now mature, and Leica's had several years experience dealing with the problem of microlenses etc. The intriguing thing will be who they work with for the new sensor.

What also looks likely is that Leica could maintain the CCD based M9 (probably M9P only) + M Monochrom and the CMOS M10. This will give them even more opportunities to sell lenses!

Whether or not I will want the M10 will be interesting to see. It's going to be expensive whatever ... Intriguing though if the M9 becomes the entry level camera to the RF system ...

Whisperings in the wind - the price differential between M9P and M10 will be comparable to all other steps in the Digital M series ( like they were in Europe; one has to take currency fluctuations into account for the rest of the world)

Care to refresh our memory? Can't remember the jump M8-8.2-9-9P...
