someonenameddavid Posted May 13, 2012 Share #1 Posted May 13, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) They seem to demand higher prices and I wonder if there are any success or failure stories out there as I have a rare item I wish to sell David
Advertisement Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Hi someonenameddavid, Take a look here Any American members sold equipment at Westlicht???. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted May 14, 2012 Share #2 Posted May 14, 2012 Only Westlicht can answer... the seller are usually kept undisclosed at auctions, even if sometime the original owner is detailed, when is signficant in relation to the specific item (see for example, in the last auction, some item declared as coming from Van Hasbroek collection); I think that for really rare items, auction house like Westlicht are probably the best way to optimize the value for the seller... even if there is a premium to pay that is far beyond the costs of ebay : but is quite a different appraoch : a specialized auction house does give to buyers a patent of originality that for rare items is fundamental for the buyers; this is different for more common items, for which I think that direct selling can bring in the pockets of the seller a higher net revenue. someonenameddavid Posted May 14, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted May 14, 2012 Well I understand that only Westlicht could answer who sold which item, but it is likely that amongst this group of people there would be someone in the USA who had sold something using Westlicht. I was interested in what problems they had encountered and the cost of doing business and whether they thought a New York sale like Tamarkin would be a better deal David
Twotone Posted May 14, 2012 Share #4 Posted May 14, 2012 This is just a general comment but I've bought from America before and wouldn't do it again down to the customs charges. I'm looking for a specific hi-fi tuner from the seventies and there are lots of examples for sale in America at very prices with less available in Germany at higher prices and hardly any available here in the UK but I would rather buy from Europe. I paid about £116 customs charges on purchases with a value of about £600 and of that about 25% was down to post and packaging plus a buyers fee. So I probably paid about 40% over and above the purchase price and of course everything is relative to if you are selling something in Europe of considerable value then that 40% is a big hit IMO regardless of who the buyer is.
