andybarton Posted September 19, 2023 Author Share #61 Posted September 19, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Morning Mike. It was 11 years ago, but I am pretty sure that Nikon fixed the scanner. It's still in its box, where it was stored when we moved home over 8 years ago - it hasn't seen the light of day since. I should sell it really. The initial problem was a wonky cut across a strip of negatives, but I must have sent it to Nikon for a service at the same time. I would doubt that they can still do this now. I have, however, just found these guys in the UK - I have no experience of them, but they might be worth an email... The wider website there is full of really good Coolscan info and resources. https://lincolnscan.co.uk/Coolscan.html

richam Posted September 19, 2023 Share #62 Posted September 19, 2023 Andy, thanks for the info. I sent an email to lincolnscan. I think I may have messed it up myself when I upgraded my iMac to MacStudio. The former had a thunderbolt 2 connection, but the latter has no such port; needs thunderbolt 3. I got an adapter, but it could have caused the problem. I still have the iMac, but the scanner doesn't work anymore even with the original thunderbolt 2 cable and connection to the iMac. I hope lincolnscan can help somehow.
andybarton Posted September 19, 2023 Author Share #63 Posted September 19, 2023 I am sure they will give you some advice. What connection interface does the 9000 have? My LS50 is USB.
jaapv Posted September 19, 2023 Share #64 Posted September 19, 2023 Didn't the old ones have a SCUSI interface?
richam Posted September 19, 2023 Share #65 Posted September 19, 2023 My scanner has an old firewire connection. I had been using it successfully on the iMac with a 6 pin to 9 pin firewire cable and an Apple 9 pin firewire cable to thunderbolt 2 dongle adapter. When I upgraded to MacStudio, there was no thunderbolt 2 port, so I bought what I thought was an additional thunderbolt 2 to 3 dongle adapter on Amazon. In retrospect, the last adapter was probably just a thunderbolt 2 to usb-3 adapter which plugs into the MacStudio ok. I fear this last adapter zapped some chip on the scanner. I have since found out that Apple may have a better adapter for thunderbolt 2 to 3.
