MarkP Posted May 13, 2012 Share #42 Â Posted May 13, 2012 I sometimes compare questions like the above with very expensive bikes I see. People buy bikes which are sometimes two kilograms lighter than the cheaper ones and then take two liters of water with them???? Why do they do that. Â The two lenses you have are so small, they fit into a bottle of 0,5 liter water and weigh about the same. Â But if you want to sell one of them just to keep one lens. I would advice to keep the 50mm. sell the 35 and buy a 21mm. Â Because they obviously want 2kg of water (which is progressively used up as they ride) and if they used the cheaper bike they would be carrying 2 extra kg of bike as well as of the 2kg of water! Â Personally I would travel with more lenses and leave the ones I didn't want locked up in the hotel. I'd take out one or two for the day but the others are there if I wanted them. However the OP clerly wants the discipline/liberation of only one lens.
ayewing Posted May 14, 2012 Share #43 Â Posted May 14, 2012 If I took only one lens it would be the 35mm but why restrict yourself? A 50mm on the camera and the 35mm in your pocket would make no real difference to your luggage and would provide the extra versatility. If I was going to Rome and Florence I would take my 25mm and 90mm as well ! Still quite a compact package.
philipus Posted May 14, 2012 Share #44 Â Posted May 14, 2012 I'm traveling to Rome and Florence in June and want to travel light. I have a 50 lux and a 35 lux. I could take both but would prefer to save the weight. Which one do I take? Â Save the weight, seriously? Â Well, if so, bring a Summitar because even one of those Summiluxes seems a bit heavy. Â Joking aside, if you feel so constrained by the extra few hundred grams, just take the one you normally use the most. That's likely the one you'd like to use the most.
