phancj Posted May 11, 2012 Share #1 Posted May 11, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Having used the X1 alongside my dslr kit for over 2 years I waited for news on the X2 and what a yawn, very slight incremental upgrade IMO. Looks like my trusty ol' X1 will be in the bag for another 2 or 3 years .... I hope the M10 supposedly to be announced in sep will be a game changer and not like the X1-X2 upgrade. Ditto the upcoming leica mirrorless, I hope leica can really up its game this time round. BJDrew Posted May 11, 2012 Share #3 Posted May 11, 2012 It's absolutely stunning that they should still use such a weak LCD screen in a >$2k compact camera... particularly one that does not offer an in-body VF. All bets on the accessory viewfinder being at best 2nd or 3rd in class. The accessory shoe is nice, but certainly does not improve the form factor. And call me crazy but down to the smallest detail, the finder shares the same housing as the $250 Olympus VF-2. There should at least be a modest differentiation to pretend and create the illusion that the finder isn't just a white label product from a common supplier with a 100% premium applied. phancj Posted May 13, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted May 13, 2012 Considering how many are willing to buy special editions, premium leather cases, etc,etc I am not surprised leica is using its brand on accessories and charging a hefty premium. I would do the same if I were them. I choose to buy functional accessories as long as they work well. If I want a VF I would buy a third party product (but I do not feel I need a VF for a compact like the X1/2). I feel cosmetics is secondary. YMMV. I look forward to the day they squeeze the Nikon D800 sensor and AF into a body the size of an M9 but thats another discussion altogether! CJ Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Whilst not perhaps what we all would have wished for, it seems to me that once we get one into stock (hopefully later this month according to Leica) and I get my hands on it, I may well find myself changing my mind. Maybe it's because the photos posted with that article didnt do anything for me either, not to say the X2 may not be potentially much better than the X1 by virtue of its newer sensor. it is just too little of an upgrade IMO to justify the upgrade for many if not most X1 users (my personal take again). This is in stark contrast to when the X1 was announced, I was genuinely excited they squeezed the APS-C sensor into a cam smaller than M4/3 cams. One has to remember however that the price increase X1 to X2 (in the UK anyway) is less than £100. Whether one follows Ming's approach to photograph post-processing or not it is difficult (dare I say impossible?) to judge from posted jpegs. It will have video. R and M mount. The M9 will live on as their RF OVF camera line. The M9 will get a better CCD sensor from Trusense and faster electronics and upgraded LCD and who knows what improvements but, it won't get any changes like the M10. The MM will live on and eventually inherit the M9 sensor for B&W Three distinct cameras all in the cost range of the M9. Leica isn't going to even come close to giving away their mirror-less camera. They will stay Leica with three nearly ten-thousand dollar cameras in their catalog plus the S-line. That is who Leica is. The X2 is gift at its price.
