I think it would be good form on Leicas part to apologize for using the May 10 date to garner publicity deceiving the public who were under the expectation of an M10 release.

Nobody at Leica is that naieve or stupid and it makes me personally experience that I have been deceived considering that the M9 was released on a date association.

Aplologize for a joke? Just treat it as Leica's sense of humour - to use an historical analogy, many here were expecting them to land in the Pas de Calais and they came ashore in Normandy.

Seriouslly?

Im surprised at all the complaints. Photokina has always been talked about the release date of the cameras. Leica goes even further and produces something completely ground breaking that has never been done before and they get ridiculed for it? They give us a lens that is the best lens available and they get ridiculed for it? I'm looking for ward to hearing about the X2's autofocus but the leica site says instantaneous...we'll see. But they've taken the only stop I can find out of that camera. Making it possibly, at least for me, the perfect small pocketable camera.

It reminds me of Apple sites pre launch time. Where idiots dream up of unrealistic concoctions and then call for the companies demise once they are not launched.

The new EVIL camera will be released in September, the M10 on the 10th of October. You heard it here first! Now get those worry beads out and watch your hair turn grey (or even greyer).

And of course the M10 will be so good you won't need an MM for monochrome anymore.

I had tried to talk you out of it, mocking kabbalistic interpretation attempts of what was really just an arbitrary date, but you wouldn’t listen …

If it was an arbitrary date, then Leica's marketing department is stupid. I don't blame the company for generating free publicity, but what transpired is exactly what they hoped. That's how marketing people think. And anyone who doesn't believe that is a bit naive. Leica's a business.

To know clients are interested in the M10 and then choose may 10 and play up the date in the invitation and now say customers are reading tea leaves is disingenuous at best. And to deliver what they did just further pushes the product line into a realm that is not going to produce the iconic journalistic photos. In real life those photographers can't afford it and they can get as good equipment for a lot less. Look at the x2. Who in this age produces a technological upgrade several years later and charges a third more! It is their company and their strategy.

mmmmmmmm,,,,,,Red-dot Kool-aid - my favorite!!!:)

Shouldn't we all be taking some pictures instead of having a go a Leica.

Using May 10 got the response they where hoping for. Lots of talk for weeks and anticipation.Just like a Manchester or Milan derby.

It was after all only a few people who insisted it would be an M10, using some imperfect logic that 10/05/12 was as significant as 09/09/09. I think the rest knew deep down that Leica had a long way to go in exploiting the M9 and variants before needing to produce an M10. So Leica have done nothing wrong, it is the hysteria generated by the few that have caused the deflated response with the new product releases, it is they who should apologise to the forum, and then to Leica :D

I have just returned from taking a few experimental IR pictures on my lovely M8, a very satisfying experience unlikely to be matched by any of the recently announced 'goodies'. All at no extra cost. I have enough personal challenges to keep me out of mischief for a very long time. So May 10th was just another date in the calendar when little occurred to change my life. :)

I have been told by Leica betatesters that the autofocus on the X2 is indeed very fast and much better that the X1. the flash construction is much better too.

What's really funny is reading all the posts leading up to May 10th. All the speculation. When I was gathering input before purchasing my M9-P a few months ago, folks telling me to wait till May 10th..............

Oh well..time to take some photos.
