jrc Posted March 5, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted March 5, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) My M8 went down yesterday, managed to get a menu up long enough to turn off the five minute power-off option, and left a battery in overnight to drain it and get a reset. That apparently all worked, but the camera doesn't. Still won't fire the shutter, etc. By screwing around with it like I did last night, I managd to get the menu up once, and found that the power-off optin had retuned to five minutes, which means tht the camera reset to the default settings. I'm sending it to NJ today. Â God help me, I'm thinking about buying another one as a backup. I may go out and have my head examined before I do that, though. fotografr Posted March 5, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 5, 2007 Is this issue addressed in the new firmware that is supposed to be available tomorrow or is it an insidious hardware problem? Â I made that inquiry when I sent my first one back to Solms about 7 weeks ago, but never got an answer. My second one is currently back there as well (same problem), and I will once again try to get an answer to this question. Â BTW, where did you hear about new firmware available tomorrow? stevem7 Posted March 5, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted March 5, 2007 What is up with all of these M8's dying?? Has anyone recieved theirs back from this repair yet? It seems like an awful lot of M8's have just died for no apparant reason. Not good when you have a $4800 camera that dies and you have to wait 2 months for it to come back from repair. Having just spent $4800 on my M8 and $6500 on lenses I am keeping my fingers crossed here.
jaapv Posted March 5, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted March 5, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leave it without battery for two or three days. You'll get it working well enough then to install 1.092 and hopefully your problem will be solved - fingers crossed.

Lode Posted March 6, 2007 Share #9  Posted March 6, 2007 Mabe this secret strategic from Leica sale all of M8 what people stop to buy after found it about IR filters. If cant to sale 10,000 M8 to 10,000 peoples, than sale same 10,000 M8 to 2,000 peoples  Ferenc,  I’m relatively new to this forum, and like you, I’m sceptical and I don’t own a M8 (although I hope this will change in the near future).  I’ve been reading your posts and I must say to some degree they’re entertaining and often also to the point. But I think you'll admit sometimes they aren’t very constructive. I like your peerless way of posting, but may I ask you some questions?  1. According to my experience forums are a waste of time because of the childish behaviour of most of the members, using forums to boost their ego. Do you agree this forum is a rare exeption in that respect? 2. Do you think people in this forum aren’t aware of the issues? 3. Have you noticed how often people in this forum are helping each other? 4. I'‘ve been working for 33 years in the photographic industry, nevertheless I’ve been learning a lot in this forum. Are you aware of the huge knowledge that’s at your disposal in this forum? 5. Wouldn't it be better considering people in this forum as your friends? 6. Do you agree Leica vanishing from the photographic scene would be a big loss?  Kind regards, Lode
