Leica Centennial

Probably with a commemorative limited edition of the new M10 b/w camera with a lens or two, all in a silver+black finish.

Joking aside, as a jubilee this ranks up there with the 150 year of photography. As I understand it, that coincided with 75 years of Leica involvement in photography and a special M6 Platinum was released in 1989 (it seems they count from 1914, not 1913).

Perhaps they could release a one-off M6 black paint.

Though I think they won't.

Edit: Or wait, why not issue an S2 Platinum.

.

Indeed they do count from 1913... the 70th Anniversary Leica M4 P with body (and lenses) engraved 1913-1983 is a well known variant. To be true, when they were in "special editions frenzy" they made in 1989 the M6 Platinum... 150th of photography AND 75th of "leica Photography" .... Maybe they meant that the Leica 0 prototype was made in 1913, but it took the first real pics in 1914 (when E. Leitz took it with him in USA ?) ... :o

So 2013 will be a "centennial"... I think they'll do some "specials"... maybe one series for each of the current cameras... or a restricted super luxury film MP... or... who knows... ?

Whatever they do, I hope they do it properly because it'll be a while before they get a chance again.

About the 1913 thing - I saw on Cameraquest that the M6 Platinum was released in 1989.

In keeping with past customs and practices (while upping the ante), perhaps a limited edition set of 25 kits consisting of an M9-P body, a 21/1.4, a 35/1.4, a 50/0.95 and a 90/2.

These kits would all have matching serial numbers and platinum finish and would be served up in a platinum zero halliburton case - only for the Asian market, of course :D and would be priced at one million euros each.
