Hank Taylor Posted May 7, 2012 Share #3 Posted May 7, 2012 Chris, nice shot, I think the Canon 5D with leica lenses and the 24 MP works great when covering Air shows. I like using my Leica R 350mm f4.8 lens with this body. Hank
Omaroo Posted May 7, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted May 7, 2012 Thanks Paul Thanks too Hank Funny thing is that I leave my 5D Mark-II at home these days. I only take my M8, M4-P bodies and Summicron-C/Heliar lens combo with me. I'm enjoying not being encumbered with kilograms-worth of gear. I agree that the 5D is great for this type of even though. If I wasn't enjoying the Leica cameras so much I'd certainly take it. What was dramatically different for me this year was the 40mm Summicron-C. I didn't feel the need or want to shoot aircraft up close on the tarmac or up in the air - which meant that I didn't have to carry long, heavy glass. I wanted close-up ground shots of planes and the crowd of people. Great street photography!
stuny Posted May 7, 2012 Share #5 Posted May 7, 2012 Gorgeous! Most people misquote Shakespeare with, "Music hath charms to sooth the savage beast." The correct quote is "Music hath chamrs to sooth the savage breast." When I hear or read that I think of breasts painted like the Flying Tigers' P-40s. I too love shooting with my leica at the Air shows but this time was without my M9 because I had to send it in to New Jersey because it developed a crack in the sensor. Leica called today and informed me they are going ahead and repairing it at no charge even though, it's out of warrantee. Best regards, Hankj
StephenPatterson Posted May 27, 2012 Share #7 Posted May 27, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I love the P-40. A few years back I was fortunate to visit a restoration facility in Wangaretta that was restoring P-40s recovered from crash sites New Guinea. I wasn't checked out on the P-40, but was offered the opportunity to start her up and taxi down the runway to warm the oil up for the owner, Gus Lazard. I did have a go on their Wirraway and Winjeel, adding two distinctively Australian warbirds to my logbook. Omaroo Posted May 28, 2012 Author Share #8 Posted May 28, 2012 Very interesting Stephen Wangaratta? You come to the Albury border region often? Do you have anything to do with HARS at all?
StephenPatterson Posted May 28, 2012 Share #9 Posted May 28, 2012 Chris, my last trip to Australia was 2007, and visiting Wangaretta was just a lucky occurrence. I was in Melbourne visiting a friend who suggested we drive up, and never one to turn down the opportunity to visit a historic aircraft restoration I heartily agreed. My wife and I hope to visit Australia again early next year.
