48 hours ago a guy selling farm equipment on eBay put up the following as "old Leica camera", starting bids at £0.99.

Leica M3 35mm Rangefinder Film Camera Rare Black Model (0799429605018) | eBay

Since then, the lucky man has discovered that he is sitting on a gold mine (the camera has a sister for sale in the current Westlicht auction). £7,100 as I write, with more than six days left to go.

An interesting and on-going story that seems to show that, once in a while, some things are NOT too good to be true. :)

I bid 11000.00 usd on it and was outbid instantly. I want to keep going or maybe throw in that "last 6 second bid" but Mrs. Clouseau would make me sleep on the couch if I go any further.

You mean 1,100.00 right? It is currently at 8,200.

At the same time that many eyes were focused on Berlin, this M3 sold for £14,101. I feel very happy for its finder.

Sorry but I don't believe a word of that advert.

Two seconds on Google would have told how rare that camera was plus you don't have to be into cameras to know that it's a very good camera despite it's age, one look at the lens would have told him it was a quality bit of kit.

It's interesting to note that in the last minute it went from £8,401 to £14,101 in 9 bids and from £12,500 to £14,101 in the final 3 seconds in the last 8 bids. There were a few snipers around.

Pete.

I guess one had to be there watching from the start. No hint of artifice from anything I saw. :)

Well I still don't believe that someone just came across one of the rarest cameras produced in the past sixty years by finding it in an old camera bag.

One of 1300 out of 225,000.

I mean c'mon?
