ymc226 Posted April 20, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted April 20, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I like the look of the hood with its wave like cut outs on the front edge so I bought 2, for my pre FLE 35 Summilux ASPH and 28 Summicron ASPH. LEICA REPLACEMENT LENS HOOD #12466 NEW! DESIGNED FOR THE OLD LEICA 35MM F/1.4 & 28MM F/2 + F/2.8 LENSES! Â Both did not attach securely to the lenses and were easily pulled off. Careful inspection compared to hood # 12452 I got for 35 Summicron ASPH shows the prongs did not stick out as much to catch onto the groove in the lens especially designed for the hood to latch onto. Â A similar situation arose with J12 on his search for a 12504 hood that worked properly. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/customer-forum/224050-leica-12504-hood.html#post1984664 Â Rather than send the hoods back cross country and having similar replacement hoods with the same issue, I took them apart by removing the 4 tiny screws in the back and removing the inner ring. Removal of the ring released 2 "springs" consisting of U shaped springy metal pieces with flat tabs on either end that stuck out to catch onto the lens groove. I re-crimped them manually to achieve a more acute bend to allow the tabs to stick out more. Â That was the easy part; trying to put everything back together was a big chore but eventually I did and both hoods now securely attach. Older hoods that I have such as the IROOA didn't have this issue.

sdk Posted April 25, 2012 Share #3  Posted April 25, 2012 I decided to get one of these for my 28mm/2. At first I thought it wasn’t going to stay on, but it turned out I hadn’t pushed it on all the way. The hood has a couple prongs that keep it from rotating, and if they don’t get seated right into the corresponding notches on the 28mm, the lens hood won’t stay on well. Properly seated it seems my hood and lens are fine together, and mine needs no adjustment. The 12466 hood is very robustly made, seemingly all metal. I’m happy to have it. sdk Posted April 26, 2012 Share #5  Posted April 26, 2012 Me too, it seems like they are 3-4X the cost they should be, but then all new Leica stuff seems that way to me. At least the Leica AG isn’t going bankrupt like Eastman Kodak, Inc.!
Peter H Posted April 26, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted April 26, 2012 I have a 12466 on my 28mm Summicron ASPH. Fits perfectly if you get it on in the right position. Â Bit I agree, its an absurd price.

I’m happy to have it.  I went back and looked at both my Summicron 28 ASPH and Summilux 35 ASPH. They both have the groove where the tabs from the hood sits into so the hood cannot be pulled off but I didn't see any additional stops in the groove that prevents the hood from rotating. The hoods for these lenses have tabs on the inside corresponding to the notches at 3 o'clock and 9 o’clock also. On the 12466 hood these are on the inside. See the photos below, where I indicated with arrows on the notch on the left side of the lens, and the tab on left inside of the hood.  The 12466 hood won’t fit on the current 35mm/1.4 ASPH FLE 11663 version because the lens lacks the hood retaining ring of the penultimate version. The FLE version only works with the 12465 externally threaded hood.  Steve K. Welcome, dear visitor! I rotate the hoods and nothing catches to stop them. Do I need to put on the hoods at the "12 o'clock position aligned with the notch to keep them from spinning? I'ill try when I get home.  Thanks,  Lawrence

It seems to line up with the 12 o’clock dot near the hood retaining ring and aperture ring. I’ll have to get out some white model paint to make it easier to align.  Good luck fiddling with yours, Steve K
