I have M8, with Metz flash MZ-3 and a SCA 3502 M4 adaptor. The flash will not fire when set into manual mode, I have seen that this has worked for other users. When the flash is slid off the adaptor it fires, but does not fire when the shutter release is depressed. So far I turn the camera on first, turn on the metz flash on manual and dial in the relevant values, but when I press the shutter, nothing. The shutter speed is set to below flash sync speed. jaapv Posted April 18, 2012 Share #2 Posted April 18, 2012 I have this combo with the 3502M5 adapter and is is excellent, but the 3502M4 should work as well. Did you set all the little switches in the adapter to zero/off? Did you push the flash all the way home in the hot shoe? - it is a bit tight. Does the sync work with other flashes? The mentioned digital-camera Leica M8 only is equipped with a special GNC-flash-control and not with the standard-TTL-flash-control anymore. Therefore the flash unit also has to be equipped with this GNC-flash-control. However, the mecablitz 54 MZ-4 also is loaded with this special GNC-flash-control. But please note for the connection with the Leica M8 the adapter SCA 3502 onwards M4 is necessary. In this case the GNC-mode can be set at the mode "M" of the flash unit. Normally the light output of flash unit is controlled by the camera in this case. Unfortunately the camera doesn't transfer the aperture to the flash unit. But at the GNC-flash-mode the setting of the aperture at the flash unit isn't important. If the aperture at the flash unit is different to the camera aperture normally the exposure also is correct. Basically at the GNC-flash-mode of the flash unit all f-stops of the camera lens can be used. Therefore the f-stop 45 also can be used. But please not that the flash range is depending on the guide number and the setting of the f-stop. If you use the f-stop 45 the flash range will be very small. The maximum flash range for the settings can be calculated by the formula flash range = guide number : f-stop. If you still have problems please give us the settings of the flash unit and the camera as well as the lens and the ISO value. Maybe we can give you more information. If the lens is equipped with the coding and the function is set at the camera menu the power zoom reflector of the flash unit will be set automatically. But please note that the digital-camera Leica M8 is equipped with a smaller sensor than the 35 mm format is. Therefore an extension of the focal length is activ. This extension of the focal length automatically is set at the flash unit. For example if you use a lens with 50 mm the power zoom reflector of the flash unit will be set at the position of 70 mm.
