Thanks everyone. This is XP2 and I have sharpened it in Lightroom. This is from a scan I got when the film was processed rather than one I have done. Without finding the neg strip I'm not exactly sure what camera and lens combination I used although I suspect it was my M3 and Zeiss Planar

Both the lens and Ilford XP2 are usually very sharp, so the need to use USM probably is not necessary.

I've tracked down the Neg and as I suspected it was my M3 & Zeiss Planar. I've scanned the neg and here is the result. This has had nothing done to it except to being cropped in Lightroom.

Yeah and you CAN see that it the horses hair and coat look way more natural, not like hogs bristle .

Deke McClelland describes the different "effects" that photo editing software has on the way pixels are altered, I found his understanding and instruction very insightful and helpful.
