Lots of money - know nothing about photography but know that Leica is very expensive. Buy as a status symbol and take complete rubbish pictures then complain - Yawn

...... In a sense, just because one does not take 'good'pictures, does that mean one is not entitled to voice dissatisfaction? and is so, would the dissatisfaction be heard more if for arguments sake it was posted alongside the posters outstanding pictures?

Sounds like elitism to me.

What strikes me as most odd is that someone who doesn't like something and plans to get rid of it will come on a forum board and tell it to a bunch of people whom clearly think and feel the opposite.

What exactly are they looking for? Personally I suspect they are trolls.

I tend to agree with Michael. There is a steep learning curve for those with no prior range finder experience. Some seem to hang in there and rip the rewards, but others perhaps bail out sooner, and hence feel the need to express their frustration.

I still see value in those posts though. They raise awareness to some of the quirks of digital M cameras and help prepare the future adopters.

In terms of psychology, perhaps you are on to something here.

All the greats have used this camera so surely if I buy it I will become great? Oh but my pictures still suck. Oh well, blame it on the camera because I can't face the fact that it's me.

Also, one key issue I have learned in life is that there are a lot of people who aren't happy unless they are complaining...

Actually the people who complain about products are the ones giving feedback that if used improves products. It's the people who accept anything that is handed to them that contribute little even if they are generally positive. The really great people however are those who on this forum point out the facts and understand that some person could have had brilliant experiences with Leica and then go on to be disappointed and burnt badly and only wishes the company to improve. Also there needs to be the correct attitude towards material goods and an appropriate attitude towards the humans often referred to as trolls on this forum. Well to those who call others trolls I can let you know what psychology teaches, that behavior indicates a disorder within ones own self. The troll is in fact the one who labels another a troll.

...Others are right - there are some people around here who need help, and not of the "Which lense should I take on my next trip to the shops?" variety.

Regards,

Bill

I need(-ed) help!

Sold my M9 for a great price and wait for the M10. And if it'll be too expensive, I'll wait for the FF Sony/Canicon mirrorless. And later for the FF Ricoh mirrorless to use the wideangles, too.

Spring is almost here, so I took out the yet unused Christmas IIIG, but couldn't insert film. Friend helped me :) So I needed help and it was great to have it.

I know I'll never sell my M8, though.

What do I care what a novice likes?

If M is right for him: wellcome on board (regardless how he proceded to find out about M).

If not: Leica has a great second hand tradition and it's fine to see it being fed new articles.

Well psychologically it is a strange phenomenon because the theory of cognitive dissonance would predict the opposite. People tend to believe in in consonance with their behavior: if I give a dollar for Amnesty International I must believe in its values for instance.

I think that there is something else happening here. The great names of early photographic history worked with an M and this M is still the same in what it expects from its user. Since the 90s the photograhic ergonomy has changed drastically. So the generation who grew up with auto-everything DSLR's finds itself confronted with the need to think, to previsualize and get a routine with manual operating, which is in the case of an M a learning process of several years and not only a number of shutter-releases.

What has been forgotten since the digital M's a bit, is that the price of a Leica is still, just like 30-50 years ago, determined by durability of the construction, which is also true for the lenses. This may be felt as a relative value in an era in which every year every selfrespecting brand is offering a new model.

Everyone has an off day when he or she needs to vent frustration. Guitarists smash guitars, tennis players bash rackets, but luckily I have yet to see someone destroy a Leica M. The closest was someone in Hong Kong trying to paint a Leica pink.

For many folks this is a great forum, but sometime there is a tendency for the poster to vent frustration, at the camera, at the lens or at the individual's own judgement.

Maybe its time we set up dedicated 'red' threads for would be forum-ers to post and vent their frustration leaving serious threads for meaningful discussion.

This isn't a Leica issue, I've seen it loads.

Someone takes up photography on a whim, buys a camera and snaps away. They find their photos don't look like the professionals and immediately think their camera is crap.

So, they buy an expensive camera, one like wot the professionals use. That will make their photos look like the professional photos they see in galleries, papers and magazines.

Sadly they find their photos still pretty bad. They immediately think their camera is crap........

If there is trolling going on then, on seeing these types of threads develop, I am left wondering as to who enjoys this “sport” the most - the ones laying the bait or those who are taking it? Given the accusations of trolling the propensity for responses seems a little strange to me, not to mention starting new threads which provide the perfect new platform for it to continue. I fear these types of thread risk doing this great forum a disservice. So, I wonder if discretion is the better part of valour in instances such as these, as it seems a shame for us to be pulled down to the level of trading insults and derogation (of the cameras by one side and of the users of the cameras by the other side.)

Usually someone who is secure about their own preferences in life will simply say something like, "It doesn't work for me" and then just move on.

Bingo! But the converse is true also. Why do people get so damn upset that others don't like what they like? Why do I get so upset that others get upset about people who don't like what I like? It's a circular thing.
