jkarr Posted April 8, 2012 Share #1 Posted April 8, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey all, I came across these two items recently and haven't had much luck figuring out exactly what they are. They appear to be either cameras or possibly film magazines and probably for scientific or some other specialized use. Both have enamel finishes. The gray one is stamped "Leitz Wetzlar Germany D.B.P. 1044601," and the black one is stamped "Ernst Leiz Wetzlar Germany D.B.P. 1074601." I'm curious as to what they are, when they were made, and possibly what their value is. Thank you to everyone for helping me identify these! someonenameddavid Posted April 9, 2012 Share #3 Posted April 9, 2012 I never knew of the existence of the Adox 300 until this article ( a brilliant idea ruined by a fixed Steinheil Cassar lens :-( ) the Leitz wizards should have incorporated it into a Leicaflex and fought off the Japanese invasion for a few more years..... Or maybe the Adox was a test of the concept and it didn't work so well..... David
gyoung Posted April 9, 2012 Share #4 Posted April 9, 2012 Zeiss did it for the Contaflex and Contarex. Cuts down on second body sales.... :-) Gerry
gvaliquette Posted April 9, 2012 Share #5 Posted April 9, 2012 Zeiss did it for the Contaflex and Contarex. Cuts down on second body sales.... :-) Gerry I had a Contarex back then. And I did have TWO bodies. The two features of the Contarex system that I miss the most are the interchangable magazine backs and the standardized bayonet filters. adan Posted April 9, 2012 Share #6 Posted April 9, 2012 To expand on sabears' response - the LEITZ Orthomat was a microscope camera, which used the same type magazines. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/714_LeitzOrthomatW2_1.jpg So they were indeed PART of a scientific camera, as well as the Adox snapshooter.
