pico Posted April 5, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted April 5, 2012 It would be best to begin with a little more information. Â For example, how tall must it extend? How large a camera and lens will you be using?
budhudson Posted April 5, 2012 Author Share #4  Posted April 5, 2012 Fair points  Camera is (hopefully) self explanatory - X1  Also might double up as a binocular stand (Ultravid 10x50HD)  "General shooting height" of say 5 foot (1.5m) ish?
wda Posted April 5, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted April 5, 2012 I am currently using for location/travel work a Velbon ULTRA REXi L with a Giotto MH-1001 head. I still use its predecessor a Velbon SHERPA Pro which saw more use with medium format gear. But the ULTRA REXi L is excellent with an M9 or X1, both with hand-grips and thus centrally positioned tripod bushes.

Michael Geschlecht Posted April 6, 2012 Share #11 Â Posted April 6, 2012 Hello Mark, Â Welcome to the Forum. Â Did you ever think of trying a small, sturdy table tripod w/ soft, non-marking slippers, w/ a large ballhead & a cable release? Â You would be surprised how many places there are to put it against (a doorframe, wall, rock, tree, etc) or on (a rock, car w/ engine turned off, or even a table, etc). The more you look & try the more places appear. Â Against my chest it gives me + 2 stops. Â Sometimes the cable release alone is a help w/ hand held shots. Â I started using 1 years ago because of circumstance. I now generally no longer bring along a full sized tripod. Â Best Regards, Â Michael
