Gromit2 Posted March 28, 2012 Share #1 Posted March 28, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Unfortunately I've had an accident with my Digilux 2 - dropped it and now the focal length setting ring won't rotate and the camera won't focus either on manual or auto. I'm guessing that it's going to be expensive to repair - apart from sending it back to Leica are there any other options?? - Any thoughts Thanks

wda Posted March 28, 2012 Share #2 Posted March 28, 2012 Welcome to the forum Gromit2! That sounds like an expensive fall. I would email Leica Support in Solms to find out how best to proceed. My guess is that you might be better seeking a replacement, if possible, because it might need a rebuild with replacement parts; assuming spares are still available. Do let us know the outcome. Blindjock Posted April 1, 2012 Share #3 Posted April 1, 2012 Rebuilding the lens is very skilled and requires the right parts, correct grease, and tools/ skills to calibrate it. That means either Leica or possibly the Panasonic service centre (only one in the UK). Prices are probably similar. Is it insured?
Gromit2 Posted April 1, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted April 1, 2012 Thanks Not insured I'm afraid - back to Leica for a quote but it's likely to be expensive
jaapv Posted April 1, 2012 Share #5 Posted April 1, 2012 I had the same accident. You might be pleasantly surprised.

jaapv Posted April 3, 2012 Share #7 Posted April 3, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) It fell on concrete, lenshood first, about three feet. It cracked the lenshood and knocked out the focussing. I cannot recall the price of the repair, but it was not shocking.
krabat Posted April 10, 2012 Share #8 Posted April 10, 2012 Some years ago, I tried to jump over a small wall, forgetting that I was not twenty any more... I stumbled, and my D2 crashed against the wall, and the lens focus got lost when I changed the focal length. So the lens had to be fixed, which was not that cheap. Blindjock Posted April 22, 2012 Share #9 Posted April 22, 2012 Have you managed to get it sorted out? I bought a D2 with a broken lens (loose element and fixed it in a morning by swapping out the whole lens assembly. I'll strip the lens at some point and see if I can fix it. Gromit2 Posted August 24, 2012 Author Share #10 Posted August 24, 2012 It's now being repaired and overhauled by Leica - expensive but it was in good condition so cheaper than buying another.
stuny Posted August 24, 2012 Share #11 Posted August 24, 2012 While in Rwanda in early 2009 the SD card door on my D2 failed and wouldn't remain closed, thereby making the camera inoperable. I used a band-aide (a plaster for our UK members) to hold the door shut and it worked. I sent the camera to Leica NJ who told me the repair price would be more than what a used replacement D2 would cost. Leica happened to have one on hand, and I bought it. Best of luck with your D2. As you can see by the enthusiasm we have on the Forum for the camera it is still a treasure in spite of its being a Methuselah in electronics terms.
