gwg Posted March 27, 2012 Share #4 Posted March 27, 2012 Hi Chris, it seems to be particularly noticable with lenses with a rear element that extends far into the camera, where the angle of incidence of the light at the corners of the sensor creates a colour shift - not sure whether this applies to Leica 21 or Zeiss 18. LR4 lens profiles do not address (and are not intended to address) color shifts on the edges/corners, which is what CornerFix does. Such color shifts should(!), in the Leica scheme of things, be addressed in firmware via the lens coding system before LR ever sees the image. Eric Chan, who is on the Camera Raw engineering team (the folks responsible for the raw image processing in LR), implied that CornerFix type functionality might come to LR in the future - see this thread on the Adobe forums: Adobe Forums: Is there a Cornerfix solution built into Lightroom? The color shifts are sensor issues rather than lens issues - put the same lens on an M8, M9, NEX-5 and NEX-7, you get different patterns of color shifts. The way Adobe lens profiles are designed is to correct for lens imperfections - imperfections that are the same regardless of sensor e.g., barrel distortion, etc. Sensor issues such as red edge should be corrected via camera profiles - in the Adobe world, DNG Camera profiles (DCP files). Im particular interested in the WATE profiles. Im currently using LR3.5 and will perhaps at some time upgrade, but I absolutely hate SW upgrades of any kind. If its working dont fix it. I let the coding do as much as it can, then I have cornerfix profiles to touch up the photo before commencing post processing. I just processed a batch of images made with a VC 21 (manually coded as 11135); they exhibit the red edge and that gets fixed in Cornerfix.
