Friends:

I noticed that using the Sumilux M 50mm f/1.4 lens with a BH filter gives me a vignette. (Darker on the edges of the image than in the center)

Is there a way to use a filter for protection and not have this problem?

Thanks amigos,

What's a "BH filter?"

I doubt it's the filter that's causing your vignetting. If you slide out the hood, you'll notice it extends far more than any filter ever would... The Summilux-M does have inherent vignetting when used wide open and doesn't completely go away until about f/2.8 even with coding.

Check out the vignetting test near the bottom of this review.

Perhaps a "B+W" brand filter? I notice the B+W filters I have do have an effectively thicker ring, that protrudes a bit more into the glass area than my Leitz filters.

Older B+W filters, yes. The regular B+W UV filter on my 50mm Summilux ASPH has a mount that is no more than 4mm deep beyond the thread. A Leica-branded filter is 5mm. Slim-mount filters, without the front thread which is pointless if you don't have to screw a hood into it, are even thinner.
